History question
Alright I was reading the history on firebirds from the front page of the site and a few questions have cropped up -
my car is an 87 formula with a 5spd and an LG4. According to the history in 87 all v8s were factory roller cammed. I guess this means I have a roller cam in my car?
Also in the history the site says that the "bulge" style hood was discontinued in 1985. This is odd in that my car has the bulge and the vin from the sticker on the hood matches the vin of the car (I checked when I got into an argument with my brother, he said it was stock, I thought it wasn't). This kinda confusing cause as far as i can tell the hood is stock. Can anyone enlighten me?

Yup.
Yes your engine is a roller block, 1 piece main, with center bolt valve covers. Your hood is stock. It was used on 82-84 Trans Ams and 87-92 Formulas.

It was probably meant that the hood was discontinued for '85. It was Brought back for the Formula.
There are still plenty of errors as far as Firebirds in that text.
SE's were not discontinued in '85 - they were after '86.
The LU5 was not available in '84 - '82-'83 only.
No mention of the LL1 V6 that was only available on SE.
To name a few.

At the time when I wrote the majority of the Firebird history there were no books around on the thirdgen Firebirds, and there was little or no tech data to work from. Considering that I had only my personal knowledge of the cars and I wrote it in one night, I'd say its pretty informative for someone that knows nothing of the cars.
I started rewriting the firebird info a couple months ago and I came to the conclusion that there wasn't enough in there thats wrong to justify spending a couple days fixing it.
If anyone has anything they'd really like to have changed or corrected, email me at predatorman@hotmail.com and provide a resource that I can verify and I'll add it when I get a chance.
Yes, all 87-up V8 thirdgens have a roller cam.
Yes, the bulge hood was discontinued in 85 on the Trans Am, it never returned, to the T/A. The one exception would be the 92 Firehawk convertible, which was built on a t/a platform.
The bulge hood returned on the 87 Formula and remained on the Formula till the end of 92.
The engine information is already updated, I just haven't sent it to dirk, cause I don't think anyone really cares.

We do care.. so many times on here you'll see people spreading BS as if it's hard facts, usually based on wrong info found on this site. I'm sure it contributes to wrong restorations and misinformation on other sites, because if it came from here, it must be reliable. Like it or not, this site is a primary source of info.. I think it's fair to expect accuracy.
Or at least give access to someone else so that someone with more time than you can work on it. I'm sure someone (or multiple people) would be willing to work on the data on this website. "open source" is the way to go, IMHO

That's exactly what I'm doing. Anyone who wants something changed can email me and I'll do my best to get it done if the requested change is accurate.

Can you do anything about the RPO database?
I've asked for 3 years now for V73 be changed from the erroneous listing of "Fixed Antenna" to the correct RPO Description of "Canadian Export Statement".
U73 is correct for fixed antenna not V73.
If this is out of your department...... I understand.
