You don't need to bother with finding the RPOs, just look at the VIN. 8th digit should be a 7 for a L69 car(that's what mine is anyway), and of course it should have HO badges inside and out, electric fan, 3.73 gears, the big exhaust with the cat with a 4-bolt flange on both ends, etc. Altogether different from a LG4 car. If your car has any other gears, clutch fan, or the small exhaust, or a H for the 8th digit, it isn't a HO.

What is your question?

You are not going to find a RPO label on a '83 to post the codes anyhow. You will have to look for the build sheet for that info.

GM couldn't make up their mind on the vin designations... the L69 used G and 7. Most of the 7's are CFI.

I thought S was the 8th digit for a CFI car.

Fast68, it does have a glass hood. Just on a note my brother who is a mechanic has never seen one with disk brakes, thats why i thought it might be special.

1982 LU5 CFI = 7
1983 LU5 CFI = S
1983 L69 = 7
1984- L69 = G

Thanks for clearing that up for me, 90TA. BTW, my 83 had the glass hood and was certainly not an H.O. car.

The 83Z I gave my son a few months back has all the stuff listed in the notes above (except the 5 spd) but has a metal hood. When a car comes down the line and needs a part it probably gets what ever is available. Unless it was special ordered you buy what is on the lot so you get what you got. How are you going to complain about it not having some special part on it 15 or 20 yrs. later when people start getting interested in "collecting" those vehicles?

IIRC all of the 83 Z28s came with the composition hoods. There was a recall on them though, for delaminating at speed. Quite a number of them were replaced with metal ones under that program.

Disk brakes were not part of the HO package, they had to be ordered individually, and were available with any of the motor packages. Obviously very few of the people that were interested enough in performance to go to the dealer and order a "performance" car with a "performance" brake package would have ordered such things on a base engine LG4 car, so the huge majority of the cars from back then that ended up with DBs were either CFI or HO cars.

My 83 HO car had drum (aluminum) brakes. Probably the only option available for it that it didn't come with. It now has 91-92 PBR disk brakes. It came with velour interior, T-tops, power windows, seat, mirrors, hatch release, antenna, & door locks; the better suspension; the better radio; in short, everything except disk brakes. Go figure.

My 83 had CFI, Positive Traction, composite hood, t-tops, velour seats, hatch release, rear wiper, power windows, but cast iron rear drums. A fantastic car, I must say.
