As of 1981, 11 bodies were sold under 34 nameplates:

A-Body: Malibu, LeMans, Cutlass, Century
B-Special*: Monte Carlo, Grand Prix, Cutlass Supreme, Regal
*Sometimes called G-Bodies
B-Body: Impala, Caprice, Catalina, Bonneville, Delta 88, LeSabre
C-Body: Olds 98, Electra, Coupe de Ville, Fleetwood
E-Body: Tornado, Riviera, Eldorado
F-Body: Camaro, Firebird
H-Special: Monza, Sunbird, Starfire, Skyhawk
J-Body: Cavalier, J2000
K-Body: Seville
T-Body: Chevette, T1000
X-Body: Citation, Phoenix, Omega, Skylark
Y-Body: Corvette

You see, it's only a letter designation and means nothing.

Every car GM makes gets one of those letter codes. Well at least they USED to. Now they're moving to Greek letters like Sigma, Epsilon, Delta, etc. "F" in F-body doesn't mean anything special. I guess in 1967 the "F" code was still available and no car line was using it, so they decided to use it for F-bodies.

All cars made on the same assembly line have the same code, regardless of make or model.

For example Corvettes are Y-body and the code has always been unique to them since no other division makes a car on the Corvette assembly line. That is, until now with the Cadillac XLR coming out soon. It'll be a Y-body like the Corvette, or whatever Greek letter ID the Corvette is.
