Battery Cable differences...

When did GM change the design of the battery cables? All my cars have had the typical GM battery cables, but I have two replacement cables for 91 birds with L98's that are different. They have the new current GM type insulator over the positive terminal and whatnot. Did GM change to this design in 92 or was this a replacement part only type deal?
