hmm my formula 350's had 140 speedo's

your rpo codes should be either under the console lid or in the rear trunk storage compartment.

only lb9 305's with the 3.23 rear and all 350's got the 140 speedo. lb9 w/2.73 rear got the 120 mph speedo. all other 305 (lg4 etc) came with 85 mph up to 1987 then 120 mph 1988-1992.

It all depends on your RPO's.

My V6 Firebird has a 140mph speedo, it doesn't mean anything, I swapped it in. Its got a performance suspension badge on the dash, 36mm front sway bar, a 'Z' high effort steering gear, leather seats, an overhead console, auxilary interior lighting, etc etc etc... It doesn't matter, cause its all stuff I did. These are used cars. If you're going to try to find out exactly what you're dealing with, check your RPO's. If you don't have you RPO's then you're going to have to do a lot of research.

This thread is chalk full of misinformation, the bottom line is that the 140mph speedometer was standard anytime a car was equipped with an non-standard engine. Chances are someone swapped the stock speedometer for the 140mph speedometer.

OK, since a swap is relatively easy for this item, you can check if you have dual cat exhaust! I do, so I would say "factory" 350 and Formula options on the performance end. That's true of my car anyway.

I do see the guages offered for sale, and that argument makes sense

I cant make any sense out of this. Why didnt the 2.73 come with a 240mph because with that rear axel you should be able to go faster than a 3.23 rear axel. So it should be the other way around or anyway thats what i think.

@amandagregory

...hmmm....I don´t think so....

LB 9 305 w/ 2.73 rear and 220+ "kph"-Speedo (approx. 140 "mph") ; RPO U18; UB3; GU2; G80; JG1; J42; LB9; MD8; MXO; WS6...

What's the point of this thread? Do you want to know if your car is a Firebird or a Trans Am? If that is what you want to know, then it would be helpful to know more facts about your car. If you want to know what speedometer you should have, again more details would be helpful.

Like, what year is your car, what is the VIN number, do you have the RPO codes, etc?

Technically the 140mph speedometer was never available in a base model Firebird, only the Trans Am, Formula, and GTA, and only then with the upgraded engine in most cases.

Which hood does your car have?
Which wheels?
Any badging? GTA? Trans AM? Formula?
