trans am convertible
ok, from what i've read there were no factory convertibles for the pontiac f-body. the only way to get one is to send your car to a third party and have it done. can anyone tell me about the convertible firebird or point me in the right direction.

As far as I'm aware, all the f-body 'verts were contracted out, and not done at the factory. Where the Firebird was concerned, there was one thing that is interesting... all 'verts prior to '91 were referenced as coupes in the VIN breakdown, but in '91 and '92 they were referenced as 'verts. Interesting.... I guess by '91 GM had decided it was a popular enough option to justify recoding the VIN.

It would be nice to know how many of each year ended up as a convertible. maybe i can find the outsource company and find out.
Cargasm: Can you get pictures of the car in you signature, preferably the trunk and back seat. I'm looking into making one of my TA's a vert. thanks

My el cheapo digital camera takes super crappy pictures, tho, so they may not be of any help to you. I'll post them on my website, then post the link here. Cool? Guest

Should be plenty of trunk and seat pics there.

have you ever thought about shaving down the sides of that spoiler and just putting a regular firebird flat spoiler on it? don't know if it's worth the work, but personally, i just never thought thost GTA conv spoilers looked quite right.
(and please move those GTA emblems back up where they belong
)
since mine is a 92->85-90 look retrofit, i have a different spoiler altogether (the factory 91-92 conv version), though i think it looks pretty good with the old look. (though i wish it was actually a GTA...)

Its actually the flat Firebird spoiler on there with the ends cut off. The side pieces are plastic, it would take a bit of work to modify those, IMO it wouldnt be worth the time to mess with them. It'd probably be easier and much cleaner to do what ASC should have done, and form the top part of the 1/4 panel correctly rather than just hacking it off and covering it up. If I ever feel like 'molesting' my car, thats what I will do.
The badges arent on the car right now, I took them off about a week after I took those pictures, and havent put them back on. I need some tape for em.

Here is a pic that a member posted some time ago. It shows a trans am under transformation and was taken at ASC in 1987.

Here is a bad photo of my convertible
It is a 1985 2 seater roadster. This company built from I think 1982-1986. At least I have seen them from these years. This car is very well built and is braced to the hilt. Mine has 14,500 original miles. It has the tuned port injection engine.
My other T/A is the 305 4 brl. I bought it new in 85 and am re-doing it now. It is red.
