I can't remember if ASC had 2 plants or just the one close to the Van Nuys assembly plant? Was there also one close to Norwood as well?

well.....

"official" ASC conversions didn't start until 1987 if i remember right.

anything after 87 (88-92) would have been produced at van nuys. norwood closed in august of 1987.

There were two satellite plants that ASC used. The first plant was Lavonia satellite plant based at Norwood and the second was the City of Industry plant in Van Nuys.

I knew that Norwood closed in 87, thats why I was wondering if ASC had a shop on the east coast considering the factory was going to shut down. I knew for sure that there was one near Van Nuys. Were these facilities strictly for F body conversions or did these facilities also perform conversions to other GM models and different car manufacturrers?

If there were only two, would it matter?
I was hoping to post a pic, but I think you know the 1984/85s well enough. Still classic and the fact the Eldorado nameplate was given the plug, I will still love them

I think they also did the McLaren Mercury Capri in Livonia.

Correct but not at the same time as the F-bodys. They had started the Mustang project in '87 and finished the Capris early in '86 before F-bodys were sent to Livonia.

I had a friend that worked for C&C and they convertablized the standard Mustangs. Were the McLaren Stangs done in a different place...

I know its slightly off topic...

C&C did the convertible finish work for the production Mustang convertible from '83-'93 at their Brighton facility. ASC did the 2-seater conversion of the Capri and Mustang at their Livonia plant.

An "ASC Authorized..." sign pertains, 99.9% of the time, to the fact that they sell, install and service ASC sunroofs...

ASC is actually in Southgate MI. Close to Livonia. I know bc I delivered some freight there. They're still alive and kicking, got a GNX in the showroom. One of the first ones.

ASC's corporate headquarters is in Southgate. No vehicle modifications are performed there other than pilot cars on a limited basis. They have about two dozen specific facillities that perform the actual vehicle modifications.

So, are they exclusive to the F cars, or could they be from any of them? How about the Caddy Eldos (84/85)?

Bill, I am not sure who did the Eldo's from 84-85, I would be pretty posuitive that whoever did the Eldo's did the Buick Riv's from 83-85, considering that there basically the same car. Wrong board to be asking, but someone might know... I think the Riv convert was more popular so you might have an easier time finding info on it than the Eldo.

Well, I'm quite sure it was ASC, so no question there, I'm just surprised by the number of conversion facilities. Intitially I guess I did think it was one. The F cars were started in 1986 weren't they?

I'm sure I heard 1986 somewhere, or read it. Is that unofficial production? hehe
Bill

BTW, I know it was Camaro, silly!

There was some "Roadster" type cars where the top was a hard top and it folded down into the rear, and then there was some Converts that I think ASC might have made earlier, in the 80's but I am pretty sure the first "Official" year was 1987. Thats best to my knowledge.
