HO motor and trans
I have looked though various third generation websites about transmissions and engine mating.
Two of my friends say that they have 305 4bbl HO on their 85 Trans Am's with Automatic transmissions.
Another classmate owns a 86 Berlinetta and also claims a 305 4bbl HO with an Automatic transmission.
I can't find the page with transmission and engine combinations but if i remember right, they are wrong.

They may be correct. I believe that '83 was the only year where the 305 HO (L69) was only mated to a 5-speed Manual Tranny.

Phess11 is correct in saying the L69 was only avainable wih a 5-speed in 83. From 84 to 86, it could be had with the 700R4...(blah).

Everybody likes to claim that their car has the "HO" motor..... usually, it is BS.
That motor was not available in Berlinetta or Sport Coupe. Z28 models only. Same in the Pontiac line; not in plain Firebird or SE, Trans Am models only.
It's pretty easy to spot a HO (L69) equipped car.

L69 was not available on any Berlinetta. Unless it was swapped.
