What type of rear ends came on the 85 Z 28's? Its not posi right? I cant find the numbers coz the axle is covered in rust and its on the car.

85 Z 28, 305, 4BBL, non ECM

If it's an automatic 3.08, manual 3.23, according to the Camaro Techical Database.

Posi was a stand alone option that year so it could be (but not likely) a posi rear end.

i dont think you caught my drift. stand on the brake and gas at the same time and see if there is two tire marks on the pavement instead of one.

Instead of doing that you should o to whe wrecking yard and find a rear end that is already posi and then just swap the rear ends. Assuming that your car and the new rear end have the same type of brakes it is a direct swap.

i think you need to reasd more on how rear ends work and what came stock for certain years. the tech section would be a good start.

as for the posi...slp sells some pull offs for 100 bucks.

SLP ones will require different axles than what you have. Pop the cover and take a look. Tire marks don't mean much. Before the locker mine would sometimes burn both tires without posi. Also, a worn posi may only leave one mark. You could get a whole rear from a junkyard and hope it's not worn out or nearly worn out--overtime they will wear out.
