Where's Van Nuys located? That's where my car was built and I have no clue where that is located.

Specifically, LA area, north side of town, at the entrance to "the valley", just north of Burbank

The plant is gone, it's a shopping center now.

Thanks, I kept getting it confused with the Canada plant somehow.

Yup, it's in the heart of the valley, which is in the greater LA area. But I never remembered hearing about it becoming a shopping center. GM still used it for a few years after it stopped producing cars, but it ended up sitting vacant for a long time after that. Last I saw, which was a few years ago, it was still a ghost-factory.

So I went by it today, and it's still there. It's not a shopping center and still looks vacant, but there's a wall around the old building, so it's hard to tell. It's probably being used by Metro(bus)/Amtrak(commuter rail). They have a facility in the front parking lot area. Seems natural, I guess. The north parking lot area is a Home Depot.

LOL, not that you really cared about all that. But at least you'd probably still be able to view the structure if you ever got out this way.

The Van Nuys plant was/is on Van Nuys Blvd between Roscoe Blvd and Raymer St.

There is a Home Depot, OfficeMax, and most important, an In-N-Out Burger there...

If you really wanna just go by, take the 405 fwy to Roscoe and head east until you get to Van Nuys Blvd and make a right...

I have images running through my head of someone taking pictures of The Home Depot, OfficeMax and In-N-Out Burger and putting it on a postcard with text saying "Your car was made here" Big arrow...

Don't know why that strikes me funny...

HA!! Next time I'm home for the weekend, I'll drive by and take pics for ya. Maybe you photoshoppers can add the "Your Car was Made Here" with the arrow pointing to the Home Depot!

The building is gone but they do still ahve the GM POWERTRAIN sighens up or some sort of sign like that. And under the over pass they have paintings of old cars i actualy think one might be of a third gen camaro. My 68 firebird was my there My moms 79 Trans am was made there and my 91 Camaro was also made there. It was torn down because of stupid california air quality laws basicly.

I believe Norwood, OH is also a parking lot... I think the only f-body plant still standing is the one in Ontario?? used for the 4th gen, I think there still making something, but not sure what.

I don't think they have had time to tear it down if its not being used.

Amazingly enough, since I moved here I haven't even gone and found out where it was... I happened to be here on business in about 85 when its closure was announced....

Anybody have an address for Norwood? I'll even take a pic if I can find out where it was.

Way back when at my auto mechanics vocational class in high school, we took field trips to the Norwood plant. I know it ages me, but they were still making 2nd gen Camaros there back then...

I don't know the address, but it's near Cincinnati. That's where I grew up.
