Let's see your factory CD player!

I am interested in seeing everyone's factory CD players to see if there was any variation in the years. I know the Camaro ones had yellow letters.

Would the steering wheel controls work on these?

Did GM make a CD holder like their cassette holder?

Well I have not received my stock deck yet.. but here is a picture of it.. it may not be the exact style for a camaro, as I know they didn't have silver button faces.. the factory ones had the black with either white or yellow text.. They do have the steering wheel control output on them.. but I have never seen a Camaro with steering wheel controls.. Thirdgen at least anyways.. unless the 90 - 92 style with the airbag had em.. Umm.. thats a good question.. heck my car didn't even have the cassette holder in it.. not sure if there was a CD holder.. would be nice though..

Hmmm.....I've only seen a few pics of the factory CD players and yours looks like all of them. Which makes me wonder if I've been taken on a supposedly factory CD player out of a 92 GTA. I'll post a pic of it late tonight.

Are you sure that it has an output for the steering wheel controls? Frankie from the GTA source page says that the GM cd players will not work with the controls. He even said he tried it himself. Take some pics of this when it arrives. I'd love to be able to use the controlls for the CD player.

I don't know what I should do with my cassette holder. I like having it in there because it is rare and neat...but I don't have a cassette player anymore...

Well...that definately looks more like a Pontiac.....but it certainly looks no where near what my cd player looks like.

Ya, that camaro steerying wheel control thing is really confusing me as well. Never seen any Camaro with steering wheel controls...not even the new Camaros.

3 pics per thread? .....I always thought it was 3 pics per post....damn..

I don't know .. perhaps it was three per post.. but I'll leave it to the mods to decide that one.. I can post more.. but I'll have to chew at my own bandwidth for those..

BTW.. what does your stock CD deck look like.. describe it in detail, I'll find a picture of it..

how many pins are on the steering contol socket? there are several differant ones out there and the gta style controls are differant. my cd player has a 7 pin socket and will not work on the gta controls. I think??? the gta one is a 5 or something like that. if your thirdgen cd radio is a 5 pin or what ever the factory one is then you have a good chance it will work

Here is a pic of the CD player I bought that was supposedly from a 92 GTA. Dosen't look like any of the ones posted here,...but it certainly doesn't look like the cd players that came in the 4th gens either. It is the GM size and everything. It looks real good installed in my TA.

So did I get taken for a fool on this thing?

This one has a 7 pin connnector for the controls...although it appears that one of the connectos has been broken off.

Ah, ok.. that one was available in some Chevrolet , Buick lines into the 90's till 94 I think. Basically, till the other style kicked in. Typically "all" Pontiac Decks would have Grey Buttons, and the Chevy's where black. The picture I showed was actually out of a 1993 Pontiac Brochure for a Grand Prix. There where some in 93 that had the style with the rotory volume & faders. But the button are grey, and the deck is laid out almost the same as what you have.. to the Birds might had had that style you showed.. but in Grey. Which was also used in the Grand Am, and Bonneville.

Damnit....I think some heads are going to start rolling....Now I'll have to go looking for a real GTA/TA CD player. Anyone need a Chevy/Buick CD player?

I don't really like the looks too much of the Pontiac cd player though...I like mine much better....but if it's not correct then it's like putting a z28 emblem on my TA.

Here is the interior of a 1993 Firebird.. as you can see the deck is pretty much the same.. lay any odds though it was the same one your Bird probably had..

Here you go:

89-92 Pontiac Firebird GTA player.

If you look close enough you can see there is still plastic on the entire face of the CD player, not just the digital readout face As soon as I install my new power antenna next week it's going to be put to use in my 92 GTA...

I saw the one I had in a '92 Buick Park Ave Ultra the other day. The car had like 42k on it and still had the original sticker. The cd player was a $1,000 option

Hate to see how much the correct one cost back in '89.

Anyone have a stock one they are getting rid of?

It's nice to see I'm not the only one reverting back to a factory stereo.. I wonder how many of us have it..

These also came in the 89-91 Bonnes as an option. Now you can check those out.

Look what I came across!

It was in a Sept 1990 Car and Driver I picked up.

I should have taken the pic to include the entire text,....but it doesn't say anything too horribly interesting, imo.
