I have had this car for about 4 years now and I have never seen another 3rd gen with a similar stripe. It goes the length of the whole side of the car, is very thin, and right above the rear wheels it says "heartbeat USA" with a little jagged doo-hickey thing. I have seen other cars with the same words but they were much much bigger. I almost like it because it is so small and unique. I have to think this is stock because I am only the second owner and the previous owner was a 70 year old dude that did nothing to the car but store it and take it out for an oil change every two years. This pic kinda shows it up close but the front has a little jazz to it as well.

You can see the front of the stripe here. It stays thin on the whole side exept here and the little jagged thing in the other pic.

I have to say, ShiftyCapone, your car has always been my favorite thirdgen on these boards - besides mine
I'm not sure if that stripe is factory, but it definitely suits the car quite well! I hadn't seen the old "heartbeat" slogan in a very long time also.

It was a dealer installed feature. Usually charge about $100 for it and it cost them $4 to put on. Instant profit. That's why you haven't seen another.

Yup, seems like that was one of those things hanging on cards out in dealer parts depts back then that you could buy, like the trailer hitch inserts and all that sort of stuff..... the dealer probably put it on there himself, just to dress the car up a bit and get it some extra attention on the lot or in the showroom

Pin stripes like that were not available as an option from the factory.
However, I am certain that your local Chevy dealer would have been happy to install them for you at time of purchase.
A dealer installed option.
