1982 - 1985 Mecham Racing Motor Sport Editions

Hello all!

As you can see this is my first post to your message board. I've been thinking about purchasing a 1982 -1985 MR MSE and I've searched high and low for information.

I've been able to find out Mecham Racing would pretty much set up your car anyway you wanted. Looks like 4 differenct engine combination; 406 CID small block, 5.7L Macho, 5.7L HO and the base engine with the "Git Kit". Different wheels than production cars, looks like Mecham either got prototype stuff or his stuff was adopted by Pontiac a year or two down the line, "war paint" combos, suspension stuff and custom interiors. To include a custom engineered “whale tail” spoiler for the racecar used on the production cars to satisfy SCCA rules for homologation? This would account for all the different information and conflicting information I've found.

In an effort to get to the bottom of all this I'm asking for anyone with ANY info to please post or send it to me via e-mail. I would be real interested in scanned brochures, scanned magazine articles, scanned invoices, first hand accounts of anyone who ordered on through their dealer, any info on the 1982 SCCA Trans Am Champion season which these cars are based on and any stories that might deal with the Mecham's (team owners), Elliott Forbes-Robinson (driver for the 1982 effort), Huffaker Engineering (Built and designed race car).

In short anything! Please contact anyone you think might know something and ask them to come forward with info

I'll then go through what you provide, rack and stack the info and do my best to come up with a good factual story. Then I’ll provide all information to the web masters and ask them for a little space on this site to finally document these interesting cars.

Have you tried contacting Dennis or Kyle Mecham? One or both were making Mecham T/A's for the last couple of years of the 4th gen.

I'm sure they could tell you everything you wanted to know.
