Car: 1991 Camaro z-28
Engine: 5.7 350 TPI
L98

I have had my car for three years. It is a 1991 Camaro z-28 5.7 TPI. On the logo on the bumper and on the dash it says L98-Z28.

My dad works at a chevy dealership and nobody can tell me for sure what the L98 stands for.

Any answers!

L98 is the engine code for the 5.7L 350 TPI motors.

Well that tells us how much people working at Chevy dealerships know.

The L98 is as Chris said the engine code. Next time you see someone that works for a Chevy dealership ask them what the 350 in a vette is.

Why does it say "L98-Z28" Shouldn't it say "5.7L Tuned Port Injection"?

I've never seen the L98 designation on a 3rd gen...

Since "technically" the L98 RPO code is ONLY for the Corvette.

B2L is the RPO code for the IRON headed 350 avail in 3rd gen's from '87-92.

Looks like somebody added some emblems to be different.

Yea the L98 Is the RPO Code for the Vettes But its the ENGINE code for the 350 5.7L V8s in Camaros.

In these cars, L98 is the engine itself, and B2L is the package that got it installed into the car. B2L includes the oil cooler, specific gear selections, instrument cluster specs, etc.

I always wondered why some sites called the 5.7 TPI the B2L...

As RB83L69 stated, B2L is the option package that you ordered to get the L98 in an F-body. L98 also refers specifically to the engine itself. Though Vettes got Aluminum headed L98s after the first year of production, and all B2L equipped F-bodies got the iron headed version of the L98.

People say L98 because its more common. Though if you know your F-bodies then when someone says B2L they will know you are talking about a iron headed 5.7L TPI equipped car. The axel ratio's varied from year to year.
