I always get major props on my Firebird, hell a guy about 50 years old came up to me today while I was dusting it outside of work today and we talked for like an hour. I've NEVER had anyone say anything bad about my cars. Do you provoke these people by maybe saying not so great things about their cars? Maybe you just live in an area with a population of ignorant people who have no respect or class.

No offense but people who bag on something you love in a serious way are not people you need to know...

I've had the exact opposite experience of yours and so has everyone else I know with even a decent Third. Everyone I know likes them and I always hear of people giving compliments to the nice ones. The 2nd Gen guy is most likely jealous and the others might be too since you have a more aggressive, faster, and better handling car then they do. (and better looking!) Or they could have different motives as previously mentioned. I see more and more Thirds at cruise nights and car shows, alot more than years ago. Go to places like that with enthusiasts and people in the know instead of listening to the average moron. These cars (especially ones like yours) will only appreciate and then you'll be the one laughing. The people telling you that nonsense are most likely people that know nothing about cars or don't really care about them. Years from now no one will care about just another "regular" or newer car that looks just like everything else they're making now.

Just remember this, there were fools that said the same thing about 1st Gens years ago, now look at them. Time changes things for cars in some ways so that even people who know nothing can appreciate them. There was a time when nice 1st's and 2nd's were worth nothing and were everywhere. Thirds are already beyond that time. When more people run around in these cars with Collectors registrations and when the time comes so that they can be had with Historic license plates even the know nothings will start to understand.

Why give a rip what people think/say?! I never get that. You have a *mint* car. Enjoy that car, ignore the blabbing.

yeah i kno man... Gets annoyin after awhile , well no one respects them around here or not yet they dont. IROCGr8 is rite.... there was one time that the 1st and 2nd gens didnt get no respect, but then they became antiques! Givee the 3rd gen another 10yrs and then theyll start respecting them well atleast the early 80's mid 80's ones.. Wow in 10 yrs my car will be 24 yrs old! Even tho its a 91 it should be 13, due to it was produced in early 1990... Still rather hav my third gen then a porsche... my stupid cuzin told me to get rid of the maro and get a porsche.... pleeaze

Most everyone I talk to LOVES my car!!!

No, it's not the "IN" thing, or the newest slick ride on the block, but to each his own.

....don't get me wrong, my Iroc isn't a daily driver either..... I wouldn't drive it everyday anymore. As I've got older, my but needs a little pamperin'!!!

I wish I could take mine off of daily driver status.. But ya I get quite a few people at College no less guys shooting down my Camaro.. First kid that said it.. I was like lemmie guess you own a mustang.. (and he did)..Nothing against the stang though. Just I've only ever met one guys that actually respected what others drive, all the other stang owners I've met where punks of all ages. and all the others had imports.. But just as many other people compliment my car. "Clean" Thirdgens are a rare thing in this town. There is only two of us (including my self) that actually enter in the local car shows.

lol nah man sorry tho.... I think why ppl give mee more crap is because i live in a yuppy suburbia rich town..... Everyone here owns big new SUVs, Porsches, Mercedes, BMW, one person owns a new Ferrari and another guy owns a Mazzarati, and all the kids that go to school here own like new Acuras, riced out hondas, and some SUVS, them showin off like usual... Two other kids own third gens and there not in great condition.. But theres one girl that owns a mids 90's Camaro and shes HOTTT too bad its a V-6...... Anyways the point is i grew in kinda a rich family myself and my family and cousins hav new cars and SUVS and my cuz has a 2000 911 porsche and always tell me i have a old car thats nothing..... They tell me to trade it in and get a "PORSCHE"

Most people with money are always more interested in a car with more Status than a third gen. They are more worried about a car that impresses others, and they are expecting that you should have the same values that they do. You can throw this back in their faces. You don't need a Porsche because you have a real *****. Your personal sense of worth is not decided by what other people think of your car.

I've had a Porsche, and they're just another machine to me. They really impress people that know absolutely nothing about cars, because of the name. Is that the kind of person that you want to impress? If a girl likes you, she'll like your car, too. Especially if you let her drive it!

It is also a test of character if your family and friends can manipulate you into buying what they like, they see you as weak. Be a man. Make your own decisions. They will learn to respect you for it. Don't be a puppet.

Your deff right TA ! I agree wit ya 100%. Im just posting this up and even my dads 1986 corvette isnt good towards the ppl in my town! they tell him "get a corvette 99 -2004" 86 is to old and weak and so out of style..... Im just sayin hey they hate him now but love them later.. look at the 1st gens they didnt get no respect until the later 80's i beleive... Even now the 2nd gens are gettin the respect even tho i think they were ugly..... Esp the front of em: No offense 2nd gen guys..... But hey i still like them and respect them! Hey CAMARO IS CAMARO! There diff kinds from each decade that hav diff characteristics... Well we got the 80's and early 90's decade, which wasnt really they decade for fashion and style must i say... But there still the best lookin maro to me and the 1st gens..

I haven't had the same experience.

Everyone likes my car.

The most common expression I hear is: Damn that is a nice car!

I am either hanging out with the wrong croud, or we are all hicks up here in Wisconsin.

Either way I like it.

i always get positive comments from my car out in public

i had 70-80 year old lady who was driving a buick parked next to me the other day ask me if i wanted to trade cars for the day because she like it so much

the only ones who dont respect my car is the r!ce boys at school who think their 4 door family sedans own all. but i dont care that they think beacuse they dont under stand one concept that has any relation to cars

Man don't listen to what they have to say. I am only 17, and my friends haven't even seen my car, and they are all over my back about it being white trash, and they can beat it.
Do you think a stock 1982 bmw 320 could beat my 86 IROC-Z?
Noo, they are just jealous. One of my friends always says "You are never going to get that thing done".
I said, "It's almost done dude!".
He said "there is a big difference between being 'almost' done and being completely done."

I replied very calmly "Well man, there is no difference between being an *******, and being..... you"

More than not, people are probably jelous of your car. Enjoy it, because it is what makes you happy!

I have to say that in our area there are a lot of BMW people. Most of my friends are into them which is fine, just means there are more F bodys for us! If you look around most are beat and rusty. Most nice ones get respect. Some day people will be wanting them I remember when the 2nd gen cars were a dime a dozen now try to find a nice one reasonably. Every once in a while I see a few guys at the Dunken doughnuts parking lot in front of the Liberty Tree mall in Danvers Mass, must be 6 or 7 3rd gens in mint condition Anyone know these guys I was wondering if it was a club? I'll stop and talk to them next time I'm up that way. Drive what you like thats what I do. :lala:

you should even hope u can beat u are gonna beat it. My cuz had a 90 IROC and was spanking newer BMWs with ease.... Please man u got a 8 cyl 5.7 thats a mighty powerful engine u got there... My cuzin had a 90 ROC was hittin 13's easily with some mods. The l98 is such a underated engine....... No one believes in these engines, they either luv the Ls1 or lti, no one never mentions the L98 tho..... O well i know my L98 is pretty damn fast. Its pretty much a Corvette engine... Anythin Corvette has is pretty much good Yeah some minor stuff from the Fbody L98 is diff from the Vettes but over 80% its all the same Shiat.....

The L98 gets mentions and it is a definetly a good engine but the newer engines are known for their increased potential. They all have their own advantages and disadvantages.

I still do......

Even though my '99 Z28 is superior in many ways, I still miss my old 3rd Gens.

Peep this picture.. This was our Fbody meeting in El paso tx this past sunday..

The Fbody that got the most attention was the little thirdgen that could.

By the way.. thats mine. My local club is filled mainly with 4th gen's, but they give massive respect to me and my thirdgen.

Hmmm, I might swing by El Paso when I make a trip to houston to go meet TexasLT1. I wanna take my baby touring around Texas.

As far as the thirdgen respect. I don't get any way down here, my car has a decent paint job but had the 3.1 when it looked nice, all the import guys laugh at it and the fourth gen owners don't even look twice, they think thier bubble cars are superior.

I don't let it bother me, I threw in a LT1/T-56, she is getting a new paint job, new interior, im fixing my baby up and she is gonna have the power to back it up. Even if they still don't like it, she is still my baby and they can shove it. To me, thier is no sexier car than a thirdgen Z28.

ground up restoration..
Haven't re-built yet.. wish I could afford it.. when i do.. I'll stroke it and slap in a t56.. probably be a few years. For now I just have a set of flowtech headers running to a cutout.. then Catco Cat, then dynomax the rest of the way back.. It has a stage II chip in it, but it's going to need some extra tuning..

It should be finished in a couple weeks, becuase I have been having problems getting my interior.. that should be here friday.. The car is ready to paint.. Hopefully I'll get it painted next week, and let it sit for a few day, then buff it out and put it back together!

here's the earliest picture I have of the car whenever I got it.

to the guy in new england.

i get comments on both my cars wherever i go by kids and by old people all the time. never bad comments, people love my 85 camaro (they all hate the brown paint though) and they love my 86 lincoln towncar. i see people at bars and they recognize me "hey youre the guy that works at ***** with that lincoln towncar, its pimp man"

i feel new cars have no image or character behind them. i mean noone remembers people who drives cavaliers or accords. theres somthing to be said about a guy drving a clean classic car.

get comments on both my cars wherever i go by kids and by old people all the time. never bad comments, people love my 85 camaro (they all hate the brown paint though) and they love my 86 lincoln towncar. i see people at bars and they recognize me "hey youre the guy that works at ***** with that lincoln towncar, its pimp man"

Man what part of New England do u live iN? Can i move there lol jk ?! No man lot ppl compliment my car at car shows and ppl who kno what real cars are, not these yupppy richy ppl that live with.... Like i said all my friends and family owns mercedes porsche Bmw and they always hit on me cuz my car is old , even tho its mint wit wicked low mileage.. Yeah some kids at school compliment me but most of em are jealous because i hav my Z.... Maybe all these ppl when they 17 (like me) they had **** boxes , and they see me as 17 and i have a sweet *** camaro... I just love my car and i just lil bit offended sometimes when ppl put my car down even if its from jealously which i thinks its mostly... My mom was gonna make me sell my maro cuz she thought i was gonna end up in a telephone pull, just like what happpen to my dad when he was 18 and owned his 78 CHUMPSTANG...

My dad is helping me with the painting.. He's been in the business for 28 years, so i'm not too worried.
I'm changing the color to black.. You reminded me to take some pics.. I haven't done it in a while, so i'll have to get some new ones up.. here is the latest one I have, but it is a lot different now.. I have the doors on, fenders, and front bumper cover..

..... But everyone buggs me and tells me its old, and its a 80's design and no one has respect for it.....

Most cars built in the 80's have an 80's design. At least the F-body changed with the times.

Ppl are tellin me to buy a BMW or a Porsche.....

Wow a box or a bubble car, take your pick. The style of these cars have changed little over DECADES. If you want to impress Biff, Tad, and Muffy, go out and get yourself an import and support the overseas economies

pleaase... I would rather hav my maro...... PPL just dont hav respect for 3rd gens..... A kid from my school was tellin me how my maro and all the other 3rd gens were ugly piles of junk ......

A kid......I would consider the source there

...... I also own a 2004 Jeep ppl love and look and give me respect.......

Go ahead and base your entire comfort level on what you drive and how others think about you....That will take you very far in life....not

OUcchhhiiiieeeeee....

Sounds like your going through some BS with the young crowd and all. If I'm correct I take it that your friends or crowd are somewhere between the ages of 17-19....if you don't mind me asking. I'm 23 and around when I was that age I kind of went through the same thing that's happing to you. Let them talk there caca(sh*t).....dont even worry about defending your car nor your pride towards your car.....dont be feeding fire. Once you've done this five, ten, even if its fifty times they will soon forget about it or they will more than likely just let it pass.

But if you dont want to go that route and I'm pretty sure you dont. Here are some things that will kind of change things.

1) Looking into getting a new exhaust/muffler (flowmaster, ect.). You got a very good V8 and I'm pretty sure is just waiting to be heard. Once you done that you can hit the gas and set off there alarm when there bubble caca cars are parked....LMFAO

2) Look into getting a hood. But get something that looks sick, mean, hard....I'm sure you get the point. You got the sound now how about the look.

3) Look into getting a High Rise Z-28 spoiler. This will give your ride a sharper and performance look.

I'm sure once you've done these people will be telling you different about your car. Yes we have good, fast, mean, dominating camaros. People are used to seeing a stock camaro, stock hood, stock spoiler, ect. But if you do some changes I'm very positive that people will see it different then now. This is just some advice to a young guy from a young.
