When was the last year fiberglass hoods came stock?

When was it and why did they stop making the glass hoods? Which exact models did they come on? Was it part of a package deal?

My '83 Z28, #128728 (LG4/MM5), had the non-functional SMC hood...it was delivered on March 23, 1983.

I was always careful to never just let the hood drop and slam shut!

That '84 must have had the 'glass hood swapped on... I'm sure the factory used steel hoods on all the cars after '83.5

My '83 HO has the fibreglass hood, and the HO cars were mid-year cars. After those, there were no more glass hoods.

Mine was an 83 LG4 with a 'glass hood, doesnt have to be a HO. Also had 3.73s.

I know... I was just saying that after most of the '83 cars were built, they stopped making the 'glass hood. The HOs in '83 got the last ones.

I herd that the fiberglass hoos used to fly open while driving. I saw one at a junkyard that looked like it had been flowin open the hood looked liek it was pushed too far up and it ripped the fiberglass.

I've never heard of that... they can shake pretty violently at speed though, if they don't have the supports hooked up.

My 83 Z28 (LG4) was built in June of 1983 and has a factory fiberglass hood. I took delivery in July of 1983. Had it over 100mph a few times and the hood never shaked or split. No problems.
