I really have no idea what it can do.I know that to start the car you must first punch in a 3 digit code or the engine wont turn over. The guy i got the car from was the original owner but didnt tell me much about it.I would like to find out if anyone has any information on this...like how to change the code or what else it controls

That's a dealership sold/installed security system. I remember seeing those at Graff Chevrolet in Grand Prairie, TX back in the mid 80's when I had my '83 Z28.
It was not a Camaro-specific security system.....but
Remembering painful memories of the mid-80's as a period when 3rd Gen Camaros and Firebirds were the most stolen car in the United States (mine was stolen May 24, 1986), this was an attempt by GM to stem the tide of unhappy owners who couldn't hold onto their cars......at least until the VATS system could be integrated into the F-bodies.
I bought an Alpine 8101 system for mine when I got it back.

does it have any type of model# if so you might be able to E-mail GM and ask them if they have a manual or any info they could send you. you also might stop by your Chevrolet dealer and ask them if they could help you get a manual for your alarm

My '88 GTA Notchback had that system on it when I bought it in 1998 but I could never figure it out, let alone get it to function correctly. There was no information on it in the car whatsoever, but I think it had some kind of a motion sensor built in because once in a while when you bumped the car, it would go off.
After two or three drained batteries, I just had it removed and it's still in a box out in my shop.

Looking through an old GM dealer accessory booklet I have, the security system shown in the picture is a GM VSS 100 vehicle security system, (part number 999400). Very cool looking with the keyboard. Oldschool 80's.

Wow, that's neat! Where's the rest of it hidden? Sensors and the like? I ask because FrankieRider2, you said you yanked it.

Yeah, I agree, really cool looking. A lot of the GM trick parts from the 80's like the security systems, auto dimming rear view mirrors, and some of the high end stereos, really add to the factory interior look.

3 digit code huh?
Well I'm guessing your code involves 4,5,8 in some order as they look yellow compared to the other buttons
