Strangely against my nature, I seriously considered a mid 1980s, maybe it was 87? Camaro with the rear windows louvers and flares...if memory serves...bright yellow. Even took shots on old-school disc camara film, which I can't now get processed! Anyway, someone here was ranting about his dislike, so I counter that with "I like 'em"

Granted, they were new, but I cannot justify paying well over two hundred dollars for those. I have two used yet pristine ones I paid less than thirty dollars for. Why spend more if you don't have to?

i'll have to take a pic of mine. not sure if it was the 85 year style or not. i like the look of louvers but my side peices are in bad shape.
the window top area are slots like your but they don;t wrap around the wiondow. the have a triangle peice with 3 openings in them for the sides. Plastic side metal top.

Are you talking about the 3 piece "hammond" brand ones?
If so..I have a guy who has 2 brand new sets of those
I believe they have the 3 angled slots on the sides?
Let me know

No Thanks...I no longer own a 91..I own an 87 now...I learned the ins and outs of 3RD gens with that 91...or so i thought!
I e-mailed you earlier Scott
But I just thought of something...what Hatch struts should I use?
I dont imagine my struts I have now will work...and the last thing I want to do is have the hatch slam down and break pull-down housing!

You want the heavy duty struts. They also refer to them as required for a rear window wiper. If you take the louvers off with these struts, the hatch will pop open when you press the release button. No worries about it dropping anymore.
I responded to all emails didn't I? If you replied back to my work address, I missed it. I'll check it

Ok, just checked it.
Yes, black RTV will work wonders. Put on a very thin layer. When sliding the slats on the ABS pieces, the RTV will ooze out the seam. If it gets on the slat, it could leave a permanent shiny spot. Putting the second ABS side on is the most tricky. It looks simple, but isn't. Get a second set of hands to help you. It is almost a necessity. Good luck.

Jeff, prior to 86, all louvers were aftermarket. The factory set look like mine for all years available. The only difference would be the provision for the 3rd brake light. If your car is a low mile original, you might want to try and locate some for your year.

my car is a 70k 85 z 28 not exactly stock any more, i wonder which louver would look better the hamond or the gm one you have.

On Firebirds, yes, but they weren't available on Camaros until 1986. I don't know why. These guys both have Camaros so I was giving them Camaro related information.
Just to be accurate, I'll specify here that the factory louvers were not available as DE1 for Camaros until 1986. They were available as DE1 for Pontiac in 1983. Pontiacs usually had the dressup items and visual enhancements over the Camaro. It's possible that Pontiac used them and then Chevrolet decided it was a good option to have. Who knows!
This is what the hammond style look like on the car.

91-92 louvers
Hey guys, I need a set of louvers for a purple 92 z28 I just got a few weeks ago. I live in Arkansas and it gets HOTTTTTT here. What is available for the 91-92 style third brake light that has that low wrap around look like the cragars did. Would it be tacky to use a solid louver like for a 88 model that would not be made for the 91-92 style brake light. Summer is coming and I am desperately trying to get ready for it. I even bought a brand new compressor and I am also going to buy some R-12. It works much better than 134A.
