I need a 3rd gen Forensic Detective

I've been looking for an 85 L69 5spd car for a long time. (I had one back when I was in High School and loved it) anyway this one...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...&category=6783

is listed on e-bay as an L69. In looking at the pictures it doesn't really look like one. (the dual snorkle is missing) and I didn't see the vin listed. I'm not sure I actually want to travel to NJ to purchase a car (especially since I just got back from there last month) but was wondering if anyone from this board can tell by looking at the pics if this is indeed and L69 car. Thanks for any help.

Just email the seller and ask what the VIN # is and run it though the decoder. :lala:

The first things that jump out at me are:

1. 6k tach. An L69 should have an 8k tach.

2. Mechanical fan, L69's had electric fans.

3. Most 85 L69 cars Ive see had WS6 and the 16" wheels. This car has 15" rims.

Looks like a 5spd LG4 car to me.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. I just didn't know some of the little differences between the two to figure it out on my own. Thanks for your help.

It wont allow me to view your attachment Says I'm unauthorized or something like that. I assume whatever you've posted isn't actually for sale anyway since I know all too well how hard it is to conduct any financial business without the wife knowing about it. Even assuming your wife is comatose, blind and senile, it would be hard to move a 3500lb car without her finding out

Thanks, the link worked. Looks like a fairly solid car. How is it mechanically? I have to admit though, the deal would have to be phenomenal for me to travel all the way to WA to pick it up.

Why the interest in a 3rd Gen when your *other* car appears to be a Firehawk LS1 SLP with a 6 speed?

Curious,

My first car was an 85 L69 5 speed. My dad and I picked it out brand new in June of 1985 from Burns Pontiac in Cinaminson, NJ. He drove it for a while and then went back to his truck, so he gave me the car. When I went away to school, I left it at my dad's house because I didn't need a car. Well, my dad took it out of the garage one day to have it washed and serviced. He hit a patch of ice while coming down the mountain and slid the car into a ditch. The tow truck driver that yanked the car from the ditch tweaked the frame and the insurance company totalled the car. I loved that car. It was and is my favorite car of all that I have owned. That list would include an 86 Mustang GT, 87 LB9 GTA 5spd, 89 Formula 350, 96 Firebird Formula A4 and my current 01 Firehawk. Sure, it was probably the slowest of the bunch, (although I have my doubts about the GTA) but it was just a cool car and I've rarely seen another one like it. The 85s seem to be just LG4s or LB9s. This would be my little project car. Just trying to do my part to preserve a third gen. Sorry for the novel, but you asked

The nose decal in the e-bay pic looks like the one I will post, I had no idea they actually used that decal on a 3rd Gen...

That bird is not stock. In 85 you could get the large hood bird or a small bird on the nose. The one in the pics looks to be an earlier model bird or perhaps complete aftermarket item. Definately not stock though.

Well if we want to nit pick (my favorite past time). Notice all the original decals are missing. Indicating a repaint/ and or body work. Original stearing wheel is gone, aircleaner lid is gone, mis-matched 15" rims. Hodge-podge of center caps. 2nd gen style nose bird. Aftermarket radio looks like its been jammed into the radio pod...
