Emergency Braking

Who DOESN'T use their emergency brake (handle) here?
I've never used mine and just noticed it in a recent shot, used on flat ground it seems, which I felt was odd.
My cables said to be rusted and better off to avoid even trying to use it unless serviced. Just curious on this really.

Actually if you have rear disk brakes that is how you are suposed to adjust them. When you use the e-brake or parking brake it turns a gear or a lever to adjust them, so if you dont use it for a while your travel on the brakes may increase.

Parking/Emergency Brake Same thing

I did not start using my parking brake until recently. Both of my cables were rusted, so I never used it. Last time the car went to inspection I replaced the cables and hardware, now I use it all the time to keep it working/ maintain it. I have rear disk brakes.

Common problem [stuck cables] here though, most cars I've owned, I never really needed the emergency brake, although it could be used at some points. My experience is I just cut costs by not bothering to replace stuck cables here. BTW, John, I always thought braking while in reverse does the aforementioned. I had 4 wheel discs in my prior Eldorado (84) but my Deville has rear drums. The Formy is 4 discs... Looking at moving to Brembo like the Firehawks of 92.

I have always owned manual cars, so I am still in the habit of using it, even now that my daily TA is an auto...

In that case, it makes sense hehe
I guess I'm speaking of auto tranny folks. I've felt it is kinda strange moving from my Cadillac to my Firebird but they're two GM cars offering uniquely different rides.
Most cases, I'm just driving to a destination vs road racing of any sort.

I can tell you, after sitting for about a year, the brakes are still stiff but I give myself room to idle down slowly with brake pressure...not using the emergency. I think if it froze while using it it would be an unwanted additional problem...Besides, your in Cali!
