For the cars that came with the power antennas, was the mast black or silver?

Trying to convert mine to power, and the only antenna available from GM is a universal one that is silver.

Thanks

Mine is silver in color.

I think they're kind of universal anyway, apart from the color.

Thanks guys. That really makes it simple if the mast is silver.
Thanks again.

Mine worked upto a year back, it died in the up position as alot seem to do from what I've seen. My Cadillac has the problem since I bought it. I want to replace both but everywhere I look, $50! Wow. Supposedly the only price going, doesn't matter if it's a universal or factory, though it could cost more. ALL the ones I've seen are chrome as paint would hinder the telescoping mast I think.

lucky for me, the only problem I have had with mine was the cable that moves the antenna broke, a ten dollar canadian fix.. I re-lubed the inside parts while it was apart. Also every year or couple months I lubricate the antenna with some silicone spray.

THe cable is 90% of the time the culperate. Unfortunately getting the mast out with the antenna in the up position makes it more of a challenge.

The cable (nylon cord) seems to break most of the time in the base, in the winding mechanism. Then it is stuck in the up position.

I found that if your antenna is broken, and your replacing everything, to take wire cutters and cut it off before trying to remove it. THat makes life alot easier.

If only it were possible to override a non functioning electric mast and lift and lower manually. I can't get mine to move more then an inch per mast section. I just keep bending against the bend rather then cut it off for now. I still use my radio and prefer it for that

You could take apart the motor section and pull it down, and then snip off the nylon cable, that would allow you to put it up and down manually... Just dont put it down too far as it will not be easy to pull up out of the hole.

If I was going so far as to pull the assembly apart, I'd rather replace, however, the mast is really, bent but counterbent so that it is wavy in appearence... Unlikely to break just yet, but I keep looking for a replacement, just really short on cash and $50 is too steep
