1986 5.7 Tpi Iroc
Ok, so a friend of mine is car shopping and she stumbled across a car that is a 1986 iroc with a 5.7 litre in it. I double checked and everything i can dig up says only like 50 of these were made in 1986. Now there isnt a milage listed so that points even further to a swap. what are the ways to tell if its a real 350? and how much would you guess this car is worth if it is one of those 50?

Which is not the same as saying that the motor that's in it now can't be a 350. People do that all the time, to all sorts of cars.
If it was one of those original 50, it wouldn't have a title, because it wouldn't have had a VIN, because it wasn't a production vehicle. So no matter what the seller claims, it isn't.
I'd say it's worth about the same as any other 86 IROC in her locale with equivalent options, mileage, and overall condition. Probably anywhere from $1500-3000.

I say, the higher the speedo, the better indication
If it were a convertible, it would have higher value with the components. A recent 86 was brought up on that subject

I've run into a few people who have 5.0's and think that they're 350's so about that block casting number.
Where is the block casting number, what does it look like, and what tips it off as 350 vs 305.
thanks again.

If you look for the one about the convertible, I think they covered the same subject, but I still think, if you have a proper 350 install, it certainly is a desirable feature. I prefer cars with show AND go

The block casting number is conveniently located in a conspicuous place, easy to read and quick to verify. It's on top of the bell housing flange, kind of above the oil filter, right behind the driver's side head. www.mortec.com/castnum.htm Go there and look up the number in top half of this pic for an example.
