I need some advice on how to keep the insurance company from screwing me. I just finished having about a $3k paint job put on it.

About the only real way to get any money back on this deal is to let your insurance company total the car and buy it back from them. You will get your title back and it will be clear. Talk to the adjuster before signing anything. Since this is a true B4C car, it can be worth some loot. Someone out there will be willing to restore it no matter how hard it has been hit. Your insurance company should make you and offer on the car and then give you an offer of a little less and they will let you keep it. Go that route and sell her outright to someone who is gonna make her right again..... just my 2 cents..... that suxxxxxxx tho

When you have an odd or rare car, you need to insure it for the value of it, otherwise they will try to offer you market value of a plain old camaro. They will argue that is all you are paying for is a plain old camaro insurance.

While this may be a little to late to be useful, you need to get the car appraised and insured for that value if you want any hope of getting them to pay a reasonable settlement.

Now you can use the local papers, ebay, etc. to try and justify what the car is really worth. If you have at least 5 recent for sale adds for 1LE type cars, that should be enough to justify that it is indeed worth more.

You might also want to call a specialty car appraiser and see what they can tell you.

Mark.

I talked to them today and they said I could buy it back for $1000. I don't have time to fix it, but if someone else wanted it I would buy it back for them. Do you think I should buy it back?

When you say buy it back ... remember it is still YOURS! They have to give you cash before it is not yours.

I think a $1000 is cheap, but I can't tell how much damage.

Can you strike up a deal that they give you $X in cash and let you keep your car (without them writing it off). Sort of the same thing I guess.

Or you can stand firm and ask for the dollar value you had it sold for.

Mark.

I would DEFFFFFF stand firm for your sale price, minus the $1,000 and keep and sell the car. Get an estimate from a good reliable quality body shop on here and include it if you plan to sell it. It will really help if people can "see" what is wrong with it, even if it is thru someone else's eyes. Most body shops will do this for free. Some will even come to where the car is to do it if the car is immobile.

I really wish I had one of mine sold right now... I'd give you $1,000 pretty quick if the front end is not twisted all to he11. Keep us updated. I am trying to get rid of some of mine and would like to know if you keep her. I would be interested and am relatively close (Springfield).

Sorry for the delay guys. The basically gave me a cash settlement and I kept the car and the clean title. There are a few deals pending right now but I do not have any money in hand. I also have some parts to fix it to go with it for pretty cheap.
