FYI per your other post. ALL 1983 305HO (L69) TRANSAM's WERE 5-SPEEDS! 662 built.
There were NO l69 automatic T/A's built in 83. 5.0 HO decals are cheap and easy to come by.
As for this car...it sounds like a good deal for $400. Even if the motor hasnt been rebuilt, it could make a solid project or parts car.

interesting on the HO305 all being manual
im confused
is there anything on the body plate that could tell me anything ?
hmm
i want to make sure that giving up 400 is worth it being that the car is apart mechanically- even with the body being so good(especially for around here)
cuz to get it back together and running again will surely cost more than 400
i also thought about asking him if he will sell the car for 200 if he keeps the engine
i would rather find an L69 for it and stock y pipe and all that like i have been wanting to find for the 82
everyone is always pulling the 305s out for 350's and such
but i dont like that, unless are factory 350
hmmm
thanks

Your best bet will be to look at the vin #. If the 8th digit is:
"H" = LG4, 305
"7" = L69, 305 HO
"S" = LU5, 305 Cross fire.
You could also find the engine RPO's on the build plate.

ok just got back from being over at where the car is parked, i didnt notice before but its a factory T tops car so thats a plus
heres all the codes off the body plate uner the hood on radiator support:
E 10A 2FS87 L 208644
11L 19M 11U WATER
17C AR9 CC1
D N S 063283
engine stamping suffix code on front of block is VP
its a '69-79 engine has brand new edelbrock everything and aluminum oil pan and all kinds of crazy $$ stuff and the block is purple
the original 305 out of the car is laying on the ground on a tire and is cast 14010203, should be an L69 if its really an HO 305 car
the VIN plate under windshield is rusted unreadable- same problem as with all these cars
and the emissions label(also on rad support)says its 5.0L
what do all the numbers above tell us ?
thanks

In ’83 the 8th digit in the VIN for the L69 HO was “7” and the LU5 (Crossfire) was “S”. The LG4 was still “H”. Using “G” for the L69 did not start until ’84. I don’t know why.
H = LG4
7 = L69 HO
S = LU5 Crossfire.

i wonder if maybe this car is an LU5 car ?
maybe ?
but would it have HO 305 on the hood then ?
i hope its not cuz i dont have the resources to convert the fuel system to carb, so therefore i would not want the car
and i dont know how to tell if its a carb or FI car with a carb engine sitting in it
hmm
thanks

on account that i cant find any 305 engine for the 82 t/a let alonew another one
and i have a 71 dually i need to buy heads for and do title work on like right now so i can drive it before the city says to get rid of it
and i doubt the car will disappear very fast its been over there for about a year already anyways
hum
any other info regarding the 83 would be great still
ill probably end up getting it in a couple more weeks(next pay) if he realy is interested in selling it like i am told he is,
thanks

Does the car have an electric cooling fan? On an '83-84 T/A thats usually the give away for a 5.0L HO L69 car unless previous owners really butched it up. It will also have an 8K tach and 80 PSI oil pressure gauge.

oh, and since it is really an 84 i need to be looking for it to be a vin digit G for L69 HO 305 right ?
will the rear axle be aluminum drum or discs since its an 84 L69 t/a ?
my 84 HO L69 Z28 was aluminum drums
so..
thanks

I said 8K tach and 80 PSI oil pressure gauge for an L69 car. I never mentioned anything about the speedometer. They were all 85MPH speedo's at that time. Some of the fat cats in Congress thought nobody would go faster than what was on the speedometer.
It would be VIN G for a 1984 L69 5.0L HO.
