My 82 Firebird was a base model that came with the LG4 V8. The funny thing is the insurance company refers to it as a Formula because of the V8.

Appearance wise they were not different from any other base Firebird. They were a fancier version of the Firebird more creature comforts and options came standard on them.Like for the 82 models they came standard with N89 "Turbo Cast Wheels,Pmd Seats,T/A Tachometer,T/A Taillights. All Firebird S/E's came with Trans Am Taillights and tachometer standard. Also the SE/ could have the up level WS6-WS7 suspension
in 82-83.
The 85-86 S/E are the most rare IMO.

My whole argument is that if someone is going replace their 305 with another 305, they're probably not concerned with performance and thus would just put another lg4 in it. and obviously if it was rebuilt its probably at factory specs. Another argument for why it shouldnt be a l69 is because its got an open element...anyone who knows about intakes would probably keep the dual snorkel setup of a l69 in favor of an open element.
Anyway, i just wondered if anyone could point me in the direction of what his car really is. According to the tech data 5 speeds didnt come in the firebird or firebird s/e's in 85...which makes me think that maybe it was a v6 and someone swapped the 305 into it?? I dont know..and because the engine is a possible swap, i feel a vin check might not mean anything. if anyone could let me know as to what his car might be, please do so.

I seriously doubt this because firebirds and firebird s/e's only came with the lg4 as their v8.

An 85 S/E Vin will have 1G2FX at the beginning.
You could get a 5-speed with any firebird in 85.
And your right only the LG4 could be ordered with the S/E.It's kinda hard to tell if its a H.O or not. You'll have look for the engine codes on the block and that is a P.I.T.A.
Get some pics if you can
