weird antenna location
My buddy has a 84 trans am that has the antenna on the driver side rear quarter panel. I never seen that before, is it rare? The driver side front fender don't even have a hole where someone could of just moved it to the back.
Thanks Mike

It's no big deal to fill in the hole on the fender..
FWIW.. I really like the rear mount antenna.. It looks a lot more sporty.. GM did this with the Vette...

It could be a radio delete car. You may want to check the interior for the build sheet. I found the build sheet in my '84 T/A under one of the rear seat cushions.

Radio RPO codes typically are Uxx. There is no code for "radio delete" that I'm aware of. It was up to the owner to choose a radio if they wanted one.
If the build sheet makes no mention of a radio, antenna, or radio provisions then the car came with nothing in regard to a radio.
Cars with no radio or mono AM radio with front speakers only will not have the cloth ear muffs on the sail panels that would have normally covered the rear speakers.

the car could have come with an intenna in the windshield.. My 83 was like that before I had to replace it (cost difference was $70 less if i got a normal windshield) so i drilled a hole and mounted a regualr antenna in the passenger side fender where the normal cars had them

you mean they actually have a windshield mounted antenna for 3rd gens???
I might have to find one of those windshields, shave the antenna hole...
John
EDIT: I just looked and apparently on the Firebirds it was an Export item only... "Euro"

Yea the actually had the ones where the antenna was inside the windshield sorta like on some of the 2nd gens (I used to have an 80 camaro with the antenna in the windshielod too). The only thing i never really liked about them is they seem to be a little more directional that the mast antenna. (and all antenas are direction at some point.. i deal with it every day.. if i am goinog east or west i can pick up a station, if i go north/south it is no where to be found lol). But then i do suppose that could also have to do with the HU in the car.. I do not have problems like that with my DEH-7600
radio delete
yes their actually is a radio delete RPO....i think its UL5 ,,ill go check my camaros build sheet,,its on it their,,,,my camaro had been to ASC and had a stereo installed there and they put the antenna in teh drivers rear quarter as well...your car doesnt have a sunroof by any chance????? more tahn likely a radio delet car that has had a radio installed later...ill check on the RPO code and repost

It is probably no longer available, but according to the parts & Illustration catalogs it was at one point.
