1988 Firebird Formula

Need to know if this is worth fixing up or should I just part it out. I just purchased for the parts, but it doesn't drive to bad. 1988 formula with the LB9 305 , 5 speed , 4-wheel disc. Here's the link where the car was forsale. https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=320264

Just looking for some help on making the hard chioce:

To Cut it up or not.

Thanks

It looks like it could make an excellent daily driver.

I think I would repaint it, and enjoy it.

Why in heck would you cut that car up?? If it was a POS or something that would be different. Plus that is a good combo it has in the engine/drivetrane.

It looks like to me that it just needs some clean up, fr the most part you could get it looking pretty good if you just took your time and did the work yourself. Being that its a 305 makes it a little less desirable, but with the M5 it brings it right back up, that and it has T-tops, it looks like it might be pretty well equiped

From what I can tell in the pix:
Power Windows,
Power Locks,
Cruise, Delay wipers
Subwoofer control,
rear hatch release, rear defog,
It has the Standard interior,
It probably has the B&W 3.45 gear.
A/C
Power antenna & T-tops

It pretty much has every option that you could get on a Formula for that year, Except the 350, A4 Trans, and Custom Interior.

REally you could probably get $1500 out of it pretty easily by parting it out on e-bay. Although, it seems that any more e-bay is saturated and items are not going for what they used to.

Although if you jsut put it somewhere in storage for about 5 or 10 years I bet you could get $5000 out of it, just by messing with it and not putting a whole lot of money into it... A little paint and cleaning goes a LONG way for how much you can sell a car for.

Although up here in MI, I would think that car, with 70K and in really good condition would probably bring about $3000 to $5000 (or at least next spring) it really depends on the buyer and the market.

Well, I'll put the new shock and strut, tower brace and the wonder Bar on my 1989 Formula 350. Then I will just put the car up after putting a little work in it. Also I will rebiuld the extra 5 speed and sell it.

okfoz, you have good eyes because you got all the option and you are correct on the rear axle.

I just purchased the car for the parts to put on my 1989 formula 350 and was going to resell to get all my money back. But the car really isn't that bad.

Thanks for the in put.

Its kind of like the '87 Formula 350 I just bought, it looks ok, it runs really good, but its boarderline between save and salvage. Right now there slowly going up in value, and I think I am going to hold onto it for a while, and if I blow an engine in another car I got one this way...

As for the rear gear, unlike the Chevy guys, I believe starting in 1987 THe WS6 equiped Firebirds with a 305 5 speeds got the 3.45/3.42 and all 350's got the 3.27/3.23 gears. Not sure what the 305/A4's got tho... From what I am finding, the Formula and GTA automatically came with the performance gears. Thus why Pontiacs do not have the G92 option like the Chevies.

Really I need to get with Frankie and solve the riddle, but I will solve it.

My Formula originally came with a 305 TBI and an Auto, and is plauged with the 2.73:1 rear end. I got an extra axle to put in this winter though, and it has a brand new 3.73:1 Posi

the LG4 & TBI cars seem to have the lowly 2.73 gear, but the LB9/M5/WS6 seem to all have the 2.45/2.42 from 87+, also seems to run true with the L98's, as all L98's came with WS6 for Pontiacs.
