Could anyone break down the production numbers for the '88 Firebird? Specifically the GTA's. We just bought a '88 GTA 5-spd, top, RARE? I think so

Actually try http://www.gtasourcepage.com/ Lots of info on GTA's
LB9/A4 -- 5.0 TPI & Automatic Trans -- 2,041
LB9/M5 -- 5.0 TPI & Manual Trans -- 809
L98/A4 -- 5.7L TPI & Automatic Trans -- 6,913

Unusual? - Yes, Rare? -- not particularly.

Most folks around here will tell you that a steak can be rare, a 3rd gen is not.

How about '89 Formula production numbers. For example how many black 350's had t-tops out of some 16,000 cars?

THe "Unofficial" number is around 1000 to 1500 1989 Formula 350 T-top cars.

OK, in theory couldnt we find out exactly how many of each firebird was made if someone had enough money to buy all of the pontiac records for every car ever made from the pontiac historial division? i think they sell them for $40 a peice multiplied for every pontiac firebird ever made then we would have every record ever... all in theory of course b.c i dont think anyone has that type of money... but still isnt it possible? idk i have been thinking about that for a while and just now decided to say it even though most people will call it pointless.
Did some math and i found out that there were 840,669 firebirds ever made... (Techdata section) multiplied by $35 per packet... is $29,423,415. So if someone did this then GM might still be able to stay in business lol.
But in all seriousness everyone always says that they did not keep record of specific options, when really they did they just did not count them all up they must have not had time.

The last I heard the old Pontiac information was still on Paper... They were putting it on CD to preserve it, and that was about 5 years ago. They do not have specific records with the information readily available. However with the information on Computer, its not a far stretch to do a database and distinguish 2 or more RPO codes.

Re: does any one have detailed production numbers for the firebird?

bringin this back from the dead.

ok i cant find anyt type of real production numbers on 88 formulas or 87 GTAs i wanna know if the two cars i have are rare or not. i dont know about the formula. i think its prolly pretty uncommon as formulas go and the gta has every power option except for power lock and i think thats pretty strange too. but i was hoping to see if there was anything really rare about either of these cars. thanks.

Okfoz - Where did you get those numbers? They are slightly different then mine and don’t quite add up.

74,897 for the total production, 10,934 for S/E and 27,337 for Base Firebirds. That means there are 38,271 Trans Am’s. Adding 10,934+27,337+38,271=76,542. That is 1645 over the posted total.
Maybe I’m missing something.

Here are the numbers I have, I do agree with the S/E number. These are from the Automotive News 1984 Market Data Book.

Base - 32,020
S/E - 10,934
T/A - 31,930
Total - 74,884

Engine
V8 Total - 39,928
LG4 - 30,060
LU5 - 9,206
L69 - 662

V6 Total- 27,333

I4 Total - 7,623
I4 US-Fuel Inj. - 7,542
I4 EXP Carb. - 81

Options
A/C - 63,726
Power Windows - 42,227
Rear Defroster - 48,330
Tilt ST/wheel - 53,542
Fuel Inj. - 16,748

I bet PHS would allow someone to datamine their invoices for a fraction of the 29 million, they are a business and if someone were to offer them half a million they may bit, as long as your not buying the invoices only the results. If I ever get to the point where I can spend half a million on that sort of thing I will and I’ll post the results but don’t hold your breath.

Re: does any one have detailed production numbers for the firebird?

There is no shortage of skewed numbers out there. Most of the time GM can't even agree on a set of numbers. The real bottom line is that the numbers are trivia, good for bragging rights, and ebay sales pitches. However when put to any real scrutiny they usually fall apart.

That’s a good point. There is much better tracking now with computers then there was back then.

Re: does any one have detailed production numbers for the firebird?

I think I got the info from "Standard Catalog of Fiarebird"

The info you have is the same as Pontiac, which I did not have when I posted this.

As far as engines in 1983

5.0 (LG4) Auto - 16,855
5.0 (LG4) Man - 5,207
5.0 (LU5) Auto - 9206
5.0 HO (L69) Man - 662
Nothing else from Pontiac

For the GTA, try FrankieRiders page http://www.gtasourcepage.com/
For the Formula, your SOL, I wish I could find that info...
