Question about Pontiac nameplate

On the third-gen Firebird's, I remember seeing the word Pontiac on the driver's side headlight (the black part so it would be visible during the day). What years were they on the cars because I was wondering if one should have been on my car when it isn't. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I just looked through my Pontiac book with pictures of all the 3rd gen years.

All of them had Pontiac on the headlights from 1982 - 1992

Thanks for the bit of info! Now, the trick'll be to find one. I guess I'll have to start looking through junkyards!

I think you are wrong. Only the '82-'90 firebirds had them. The '91 & '92 firebirds didn't have the raised portion of the bezel when the lights were down. They were flush with the body. Therefore they didn't have the Pontiac lettering showing. Correct me if I am wrong. I used to have an '88 Formula and now I have a '91 GTA.

The 91-92 Firebirds have 'PONTIAC' on the headlight cover surface, its kind of an imprint, or outline, and is the same color as the rest of the car.

Firebirds from 1982-1990 had the "PONTIAC" headlight emblem on them..... as stated above, the 91-92 cars did not. Instead, the later cars had the "PONTIAC" recessed in the top of the headlight door.

The GTAs from 1987-1990 used a gold instead of silver emblem. The gold logo is still available from GM, and I imagine that the silver emblem is still available too. The last gold emblem I bought new from GM was about $5.00, IIRC.

I know people that bought various 1982-1990 cars new, including GTAs, that did not have the nameplate installed, so any car without it is not necessarily incorrect. Factory plant variables in production, I guess..... or maybe the assembly line guy just decided not to stick it on there. Who knows.....?

I know that the "Pontiac" emblems are available from some aftermarket suppliers like NextGen. The gold "Pontiac" for the GTAs is like $9.

it should be noted that there were 3 different bezel designs:

82-84 : squared-edge design, large headlamp, silver "PONTIAC" visible
85-90 : rounded-edge design, large headlamp, silver "PONTIAC" visible (87-90 GTA may be gold as stated above)
91-92 : rounded-edge design, small headlamp, "PONTIAC" stamped on top of headlight door

passenger's side headlight follows exactly the same rules, except it's blank; there's no "PONTIAC" logo anywhere on it.

hope this helps others too.. even if the thread died out long ago
