'87 GTA 5.7 Hardtop
A friend of mine has a '87 GTA 5.7 Hardtop auto. It's kind of plain as far as options go but we were just curious how many were produced. Thanks.
Try www.gtasourcepage.com there is alot of good info on that site.

That's the way this one is. No rear defrost, no hatch release, no power mirrors, analog gauges, cloth interior.

unfortunately Leather was not an option in 1987...
I was told the reason why you could strip down a GTA in 1987 is the GTA was an option package for the Trans AM. From 1988 - 1992 the GTA was considered its own model.
Basically the difference between the GTA and Trans Am in 1987 is the GTA was monotone only, the Trans Am you could get with a secondary color, The GTA obviously was without the fender air extractor vents, and the GTA got the better axel ratio where the Trans AM did not.

The '87 GTAs were indeed not marketed "separately" as were the later models. The base GTA was only the 350 engine and associated standard hardware, the WS6 package, the AQ9 seats, and bascially the monochrome color with the gold trim.
There were two option packages (W61 and W63) that comprised the options that are now considered the "GTA standard" stuff. If the car was not ordered with any of these option packages.... then it was pretty much a base T/A.... with the Y84 option, of course.
Trust me.... it's an odd sight indeed to open up an GTA door and see a crank window handle.... but I've done it.

If the car is extra plain, I would check the service parts ID sticker (Should be in the center hatch).. Look for the RPO code Y84.... That is the code for the GTA option....
There's a good writeup on confirming whether or not a car has the GTA option on the GTA source page..
