Did General Motors ever build a v8 car that was turbocharged.

Yes. In the early 1960s. It was either the Olds or Buick 215 cubic inch engine. One was all-aluminum and one had just aluminum heads. After all these years I get them confused, but I strongly feel it was the Olds version.
The Buick version was bought by British Leyland (I think that's what they were at the time) and ended up in the Land Rover and may still be there, although in larger form.

In recent years, the only turbo V8 I can recall is the Turbo Trans-Am (80-81 IIRC) with a turbocharged 301. I am ignoring any diesel V8 engines that they may have made.

I think that was the Trans Am Turbo, the Turbo Trans Am was a V6 and came a few years later. In recent years, the only turbo V8 I can recall is the Turbo Trans-Am (80-81 IIRC) with a turbocharged 301.

When it comes to the T/A turbos, BOTH of you are right!!
There was an '80-'81 301 Turbo T/A and Formula, making 210hp in '80 and 200hp in '81.
Also, the '89 20th Anniversary Turbo T/As had the 3.8 SFI turbo V6, jokingly rated at 250hp.
As for the '60s Buick/Olds V8, I'm not sure who designed it, but both used it, and it was 215ci. This is the same basic aluminum V8engine Rover uses now, and has used since GM sold them the tooling in 1965!!

"At least Chevy never put a 305 in a Chevette and called it a Camaro!!" (aka the Mustang II)...annoys 'em every time!!
