1992 1LE's
There is a debate on another MB that the 1LE
numbers for 1992(705)also include the B4C(589) cars as they also had the 1LE brakes.
Any thoughts?

I have the November 1998 issue of Chevy high performance. Inside is an articule called The 1LE story. They Requested the sales figures for all the 1LE-equipped Camaros sold since its inception. Chevrolets west coast cummunications office provided the stats.
Year units sold
89 111
90 62
91 478
92 705
93 19
94 135
95 106
96 55
97 48
98 99
The information chevrolet provided did not say how many of those sold were manual or automatics. Doesnt say anything about the B4C cars.

If this were true, there would be only 116
real 1LE's for 1992.This makes sense,as I have only contacted a handfull of '92 1LE
owners in 3 years.

I was under the impression that there were only 100 or 200 B4C cars in 92. I don't remember where I saw that though, although it would appear not to be correct.

The Camaro White Book says there were 589 B4C's built in '92.I read that the Texas DPS
and smaller Texas police agencies bought most of them.

Also, you will have to subtract the number of 1Le's used for the IROC series and the Canadian Player's Challenge. Doesn't leave many for the general public.

There's a 91 Formula 1LE for sale near me. It only has 8,000 miles on it. It claims less then 21 made (or 7 depending how I read the run on sentence)
What where the real numbers of 92 Formula 1LE's made. What are they worth. This one is $16,500. Guess that price wouldn't look so bad except there is an 89 TTA next to it for $14,500.
EDIT: Opps missed the 88 383 lingenfelter one on the next page.

Don't forget the "other" 91/92 1LE rumor. Is it possible that not all B4C's got the big brakes and hence the 1LE option code. At least some of the B4C's in 92 (possibly 91) had the 1LE option code on the SPI label and had the brakes etc. My guess would be that 705 1LE's were produced, some of which had the 1LE option.

About the B4C and the 1LE brakes. Halfway through '91, the larger 1LE brakes were available as a option on the B4Cs. In '92, the 1LE brakes are standard. I've seen a '91 B4C for sale, I asked for the RPOs, there was no 1LE on the SPI label. My opinion about the production numbers is...The number given by GM is how many cars had the RPO #xx. In '92, there were 589 camaros that had the RPO B4C. By that reasoning, the number of 1LE's in '92, 705, includes 589 B4Cs. I think GM can only tell you total RPO production number. If they could separate the B4Cs and 1LEs, then they could tell you how many B4Cs came with power windows, locking rear compartment, grey interior, white exterior, made on a tuesday, etc... Seems to me GM doesn't keep great records. John

John-
Following your theory....
If some of the later '91 B4C's had 1LE brakes, the number of true '91 1LE's could be lower than 478,right?

Greg,
That would make sense. One might argue that "How could the B4Cs be included with the 1LE's production numbers in '91, when the numbers for B4C were higher than 1LE?" For argument sake, say... half of the B4Cs in '91 came with the 1LE RPO. So, take half of 592 (296), and minus that 296 from the total number of 1LEs in '91 (478), which gives you 182. So, not knowing the exact number of '91 B4Cs that came with the 1LE brakes and the 1LE RPO,(assuming half of them did) that would give you about 182 "true" 1LEs in '91. That falls in line with the production numbers from other years. Sound good? John

Yep.Pontiac 1LE numbers are etched in stone.
Tongue sticking out smiley to you
John-
All the numbers and percentages make sense but....I would bet the numbers we came up with are far from the truth, which we will
never know,thanks to Chevy's excellent record-keeping
But I do think the counts of true '91-'92 1LE's are much lower than 478 and 705.

Does it really matter? Are your going to make a million dollars with your 1LE/B4C car? I doubt it. (I own one.) I bought it ('91 1LE) to race. I did. It has been great! I've had a lot of fun and won some too. But I didn't buy it as the next great Real Estate investment. I haven't put it in mothballs. Enjoy your car. Forget Super Chevy. Maybe when we are old men our cars will be worth alot but I doubt it. Too much focus and hype in the issue. Penske's cars (worth a ton today) weren't really X28's. They were "bodies in white" from Chevrolet which he and Mark Donahoe turned into race winning "Z28's". Enjoy your cars. Drive them. Run them hard. Don't worry about how many were made or whether they came with some weird option that nobody else ordered. (Can you believe that some guy wrote Super Chevy and wanted to know how many 6-cylinder automatic Novas withl A/C and a bench seat were built...and Super Chevy replied with all serious-nous XXX; like this guy had some super rare car...get real! Who wanted a 6-cylinder Nova! Engoy your Camaro. Drive it. Race it. Put a serious engine or stero system in it! Let your grandson worry about whether or not it's become valuable! (Penske is a rich man. How many camaros does he own?) I'm driving mine.

To some people it does matter. If someone owns
what is considered a collector, they should do what they want with the car. There is a local here that owns a '64 Impala with the 409 and 20K miles. He is at all the local shows,so long it is warm and sunny..should I tell him to drive it and mod the heck out of it?NO!Let him do what he wants with it.
Some people enjoy numbers,rarity,low miles...
Its their car and I will not press my personal beliefs on them.Just have fun with your car, whichever path you choose
