Should I save a 2nd gen Berlinetta?

My aunt bought a 305/3 speed auto white Berlinetta brand new in 81, it's been garaged it's entire existence, and been off the street for about 10-15 years now, just sitting in the garage, used maybe 2-3 times a year. Brakes need work, no rust (well, a few VERY small spots), and a new fuel filter (so clogged it won't start now), and the price is "get it out of my garage!!" (free).

Should I take it? Could it just turn into a cash cow?

Thanks ahead.

If it's in good shape, why not?? It's the last year of the 2nd gens, its a Berlinetta, and its probably in very good shape considering its been babied. So why not??

If you do get it, I'd try verey hard to find storage for it though. From the sounds of it, this car is an unmolested, original car. That isn't a car you take and park outside all the time!!

Good luck with whatever you decide...my opinion is, for the price, you can't go wrong!! Just make sure you keep it inside.

that's my problem, my poor 'bird has to sit on a side street in a college town 24/7, and now I'm looking at a second car! My Dad said I might be able to keep it in our garage here at home while I'm gone at school, but he's still kinda iffy... Too bad this isn't happening a little closer to summer vacation...

hey man get it period do whatever it takes but dont let it slide. i dont know if you have them up there but mini storage places are everywhere down here. it doesnt cost that much and you can get one that will hold the car so you can store it there. the only thing is the 81 model year f bodies are the first year for the electronics and they were the only 2nd gens with electronics so you may run into probrlems with that but not likely if you are used to third gens. anyway good luck and get the car its free.TINFY

yeah stoage bens are great for that sort of thing. My buddy stored his 68 Charger in one, for months, until he finished building it. That's work perfectly. If not, get yourself a really nice car cover, one that won't let any crap through, and use it. That should be enough to keep it from the weather, also, you might want to tape over any of the minor rust, if you're not going to have body work done for a little while, then you can be sure that no moistior should get inside the rust.

If the price is right I'd snag it. Is it gonna be a cash cow? No. If you get it for free you could probably turn it for a nice profit but it's not a 68 396 convertible or a 67 Big Block Pace Car. Nice 2nd gens are tough to find especially the 79-81's. Seems all that plastic inside crumbled to dust! Sounds nice though! Get it, put it in a storage unit for $30 or $40 a month.
