looking for v-8 with standard transmission
so my friend is looking for a camaro as his first muscle car. so he knows he wants a gen three. he wants a standard as for lots of people they are more fun. He also wants the v-8 power. i'm not sure how many of these were made with v-8 and standard trans. there amy be more than i think but everytime i see av-8 ina third gen it is an auto. but i live in an area with many small towns so this could be why. i guess my question is does anyone have or know where there is a v-8 with a standard in or around ohio?
i told the kid he coud change an auto over to the stick and there is a kit for it. he won't listen. he is going to get a v-6 and do the conversion. the only prob is he is pretty lazy and that will never happen. so thankns for your help guys.

the only available v-8 with a 5 spd in the firebirds was a 305, there was never any v-8 bigger or smaller than 5.0 with a manual transmision stock in a thirdgen firebird and I THINK its the same with the Camaro. They made quite alot of 5 spd cars to my knowledge, they shouldn't be difficult to find

i'm not sure what happened to thme then. he did a search with several hundred miles of ohio and can't find even one. all i can do is speak about around here and you just don't see them. i guess its not true in other areas. not sure why they are hard to find in ohio then.
thanks

Man, something must be seriously wrong in your state. I don't know specifically where in Ohio you live, but I did a Craigslist search around Dayton and Cleveland, and found a total of about seven results just for the word "camaro".
As opposed to where I live:

About the best bet for a 3rd gen manual would be to look for the LB9 engine if you want TPI injection, or L69 if you want a carb.
The perfect match would be one in either an IROC, or Formula, or possibly a T/A with the WS6 package. That would give you better suspension/sway bars/wheels.

You may have to drive a little to find the car you like.Asdfga3 hit the nail on the head as far as models to look for.I did a narrow search on Autotrader and only came up with 1 IROC in the Akron OH area and no Firebirds. But that doesn't mean they aren't out there.Finding a factory V8 car makes life a whole lot simpler than trying to do a swap from a V6 car.

the finding a v-8 in the area is no problem. i can't find everything from carbed motors to tpi to crossfire injection. the problem guys is the Manual transmission.
there are lots of autos but like i said the manual in the area is hard to find. here's my zip code 43701. if you do a search so far all i found were autos unless its a six popper. but if anyone happens to see any in the ohio area that would rock. thanks for the replies

Drinking age is 19 in BC.. and only 18 in Alberta!
...come to think of it.. you can legally start driving (with a pasenger) at 14 in Alberta too!
