The car would have come in RS trim. At least everything that was written about it showed it in RS trim. I don't remember reading anything that said it was going to be a Z28. I think they started with a Z28 and replaced the emblems and trim with RS stuff. I did pick up that magazine today...but haven't got to open it yet.

Later.

I've got that mag. In fact I just got done looking at it. Yes it was to be a RS. And it would have been the "Best Camaro ever". I dont know about taking it to those extremes. But it would have been a hell of a Camaro. Now if they wanted to make it THE Camaro they should have made it with the LT1. Instead of the 300HP TPI. Did you guys see that yellow project mule? I think it looks nice without the lip spoiler. Actually I prolly like the spoiler better but the yellow one is different. And how did they get the back blinkers to be the only lights to turn on? Did they put on the hazards and take the snap right when they blinked?

That car started out as a B4C car.The yellow one had an LT1 in it at one point.Hot rod did an article on it.It was used as the test bed for the LT4 hot cam I think.

Hey all,
That Yellow Beast of a Camaro started out life as a Prototype 25th anniversary Camaro. The "Cheverolet Race Shop" was going to build it, but when the project got scraped, they put the car into storage. Then they pulled it out the first time and dropped in a LT1/6 speed. Reference the "best of HOT ROD, Camaro Performance 1989-1996". Then a couple of months ago, HOT ROD did a story on the yellow ram jet. I believe they mention the former lives of this car. I'm writing all this by memory, so the issues/dates of the magazines may be incorrect, but I'm pretty sure.

Whatever the car started out as it WAS going to be a Z28 if it had reached production.
602 built to commerate the 602 Z/28s built in 67.
Like to do a clone of that someday....
Funny how the Firehawk ($50,000) got the go
a head, but the Z28 did not ($28,000). Instaed of all teh one off custom pieces, which drove up the prices, they should have just put the a stock L98 (aluminum headed, of course) with the ZF-6speed.

Great article but they should've forgotten all the one off, trick pieces. They just drove up the price and ultimately killed the project. A stock L98 (aluminum heads of course and the ZF-6speed would've been good enough. I think the paint scheme looks great,
like to do a clone car some day but with that

wait a sec. After reading the article and other posts, I'm not so sure. maybe it would've been a RS. Just doesn't make sense
to have an RS commerating the 25th ann of thr
67 Z/28. Add to the fact that a Z28 should be the top performance model not the RS. I'm confused, I guess we'll never know.

PS- Maybe a RS/Z28!!?

The original Z28's (1967) didn't have any badging other than the racing stripes. If it was an RS with the Z28 package it got RS badges.Z28 was just another RPO.I think this is what GM was trying to duplicate with the 25th Ann. cars.As for the Firehawks , I don't think GM had a whole hell of alot to do with them. They built the level III cars and sent them to Toms River.

Hey all,
I should know this, but in '67, did the cars with RPO Z28 have Z28 badging? I know in '68 and '69 they played to all the hype about the Z28 and made it a model and made it more than just a RPO code, but how about in '67?

As for the 25th anniv. cars, if they planned on using B4C cars as the platform, how would that benefit GM, as opposed to using a Z28? Cost? Would it cost GM more to use a L98 Z28? I wouldn't think it would, the B4C was made as a RS so police agencies could get insurance breaks.

Later.

The 1967 Z28's had no external markings other than the racing stripes.GM is all about cost.If they had used a Z28 it would have needed to be a 1LE car (brakes) and then they would have had to remove the high rise spoiler and the hood blisters. They would have needed to add the RS grill too. This would have cost more.If they started with a B4C car they would have only needed to do the mechanical mods.Did B4C's come with RS grills or Z28 grills ?

B4C cars came with the RS grills. They were black unlike the heritage cars, which came with painted ones.

also in that magazine, you'll see how GM works, they canned the 2002 LS6 F-body for the 35th anniversary eddition just like they did to the 25th anniversary.....that sux big ones, especially since its the last scheduled model year...

Just my opinion, but it would look more like a commemorative(sp?) car if it had the wrap around strip on the front instead of the strips. I know everyone likes stripes(they are on everything around here) but give the car some taste. Go ahead and flame me folks

Anyone know if those stripes were painted on or if they're aftermarket? Those look great, especially with the additional pin stripes around the main stripes. I'd like to put some of them on my white '87 RS, but would leave my grill black.

Oops...nevermind. I read the article and it said the only thing that made production was the "Heritage addition tape stripes". My bad.

Hmmm...anyone know where to get some of those stripes??
