How can I find out if my 1987 Trans Am has the WS6 pakage? It has the badge on the dash but it was on the can when I bought it, and you can buy them. I really wanna know if my car has it. If it does, is it rare to have it on my year car?

if u got 16 inch wheels factory u have WS.6, also u have larger sway bars, stiffer springs and shocks. No WS.6 equipped car had 15 inch wheels so if thats what urs came with its not a ws.6

check your rpo's... if ws6 is listed you have WS6. Nothing on any thirdgen is really rare.

ONEFINE, not to discredit you, but 16" wheels are not a WS6 giveaway.

The RPO codes are what you need to look for, unless you have a GTA, or the "Performance suspension" logo on the little vinyl bag on the dash.

if you're not sure if the performance suspension badge is original, pull it off. From the factory that panel has three reinforced holes that the pins on the badge key into. If it looks like they were just drilled it wasn't factory... BUT, I'm pretty sure the performance suspension badge was used for level II and level III suspensions... Only way to be positive is the RPO's, they're the first and last word on what your car really came with.

Hehe, close enough

BTW, on the Camaro, one or two of the holes in the dash are square, I can't say that's true for the Firebird.

But I know for damn sure I couldn't cut a perfectly square hole in my dash that small

on most years 16 inch wheels were optional.

on the IROC the first couple of years you could get 15" iroc wheels although they are very rare..

just a heads up on that..

You couldnt get the 16's on a bird without ordering the WS6. Problem with that is wheels are easily changed, especially after 11+ years.

For the webmaster of Irocz.org to say that early Irocs were available with 15" wheels amazes me. From 85-87 the only wheel offered on the iroc was the 16x8 aluminum wheel... in 88 the standard Z28 wheel was optional, and in 89 and 90 a 15" wheel styled after the 88-up Iroc wheel was available.

Besides that, Irocs dont have WS6...

I also have the performance suspension badge and the wheels on my 91 T/A but no WS6 in my RPO i think the badge means you got the f41 package another suspension option on the Trans ams, correct me if i'm wrong

I believe that the "Performance Suspension" emblems were used on both the F41 and WS6 cars, if I'm not mistaken.

You are not mistaken. My old GTA and my friend's Formula both had that badge although only mine was a WS6.

In RPOs it is ws6 so its really easy to identify. Physical ids are bigger sway bars, 16in rims, and other ques mentioned.

Mine doesn't have the badge, but DOES have the WS6, so perhaps the badge is not the "tell-tale"?

Drew, are you positive? His is bone stock and has 15in rims and all the RPOs and VIN match it as a Formula with a F41 suspention. It has smaller sway bars, the 15in rims and all the other giveaways that it isn't a WS6 also.

Its also a 5.slow like my convertible. Its a low level, stripped down Formula, no options added to the package. If your sure, then he has a very unusual car, because we took most of it apart and it appears to be all original.

Yes, I'm positive. In addition the Formula always had 16" wheels. If your friends car doesn't have WS6 its not a Formula. Further if it doesn't have the large sway bars, its not a formula. And if it has F41 its not a Formula. Check your friends RPO's again. I'm guessing you won't find W66 anywhere on it.

All formula's came with ws6 , yjet all had 16" wheels . and early Irocs could be had with 15" wheels , I know a guy that bought an 86 right off the floor with 15" wheels on his iroc., some people dont realize what you could get if you wanted it back then , 83-85 firebirds came with performance suspension
