1986 IROC-Z...
I recently came across a 1986 IROC-Z.
Here's the description:
Rebuilt 350, auto., pdl, pw, ph, detachable face CD, t-tops. Good cond., needs Caddy converter. Over $4000 in motor. Asking $4300.
Haven't seen the car in person. Sounds good but one never knows until I look myself.
Think it's worth a look... What do you guys/gals think?
Two IROC's to play with!...

those 50 weren't ever sold either, they were test vehicles for the reintroduction of the 350 in 87. It'd have to be in good shape for $4300 though, I think bluebook is onlt around $3900. I bet you can talk him down though.

The 350 was supposed to be reintroduced in 86, but there was a snag with certification or something.. I dont exactly remember. They made 50 of them, some were press cars because they were planning the late 86 release. There are some out there though.
I seriously doubt its a real 350 car. Probably changed the 305 to a 350, which isnt all bad. Just make sure it was done right.

My first car a 86 IROC TPI was advertised as a 350 when I bought it almost 10 years ago.I was 19 and just started to learn about cars, when I showed the dealer(some spanish guy)that it said "5.0"by the emissions. He knocked another $500 off the price so I bought it anyway.(didnt know about the peanut cam back then)It was a nice red T-top car,but one 2 many beatings by 5spd mustangs made me sell it and get a vette

I bought my '86 IROC from a small dealer about 2 years ago. The thing was half dead. For a guy whose boss thought it was a 4 cylinder (yeah, TPI, 8 plug wires, big motor, IROC, 4 cylinders, OK), he was sure as hell it was a 350. I know where I'll see him when I die. Obviously a 305. Be cautious, some don't know; some know and try to ply you like a fool; but get recipts and run the numbers on the top of the water pump boss on the passenger side. May be hard to read, clean with scotchbrite. Top numbers(especially last 3) say what it is, the bottom row should match the last 9 or so digits of the VIN (if it's original). If they do, it's a fake and a 305. If not, get all the numbers and call your Chevy dealer's parts department, they should be able to tell. Good luck
