WS6 by ASC or GM??
I have been looking around at 4th gen T/A's and just learned that the WS6 option was installed by ASC, the same people that do convertibles. Is this true for thirdgens too? I alwys thought gm installed the WS6 option but now I see it is done like the SS's and Firehawks, through an outside performance group.
On another thought, If you had an option to buy a brand new 2002 car, would you pick the Firehawk, or the WS6 T/A and why? I am not really concerned with the SS's because they are butt-ugly (just my opinion!).

Pontiac has been using the WS6 suspension since the 70's i don't think asc was even around then.

He's refering to the WS6 Ram Aim option, which includes springs/shocks, the ram air hood, 17" rims, and exhaust. It was installed by ASC but I dont know anymore. GM took over doing the SS's, so you only get an SLP car if you order the SLP options. Otherwise your new SS is just a Z28 with a hood, spoiler, and rims.

The WS6 on thirdgens was just a suspension pacage and installed by Pontiac. The WS6 package on 4thgen Formulas and TransAms from 96-97 was installed at the SLP plant, after they left GM.The 98-01 LS1's Formulas and TransAms have since been installed by the American Sunroof Company(ASC),which BTW,I believe has been around since 1965.Also BTW,I like the Firehawk better, its just meaner, will be worth more and when someone asks you what you drive "Firehawk" just sounds way better then "WS6"

ASC just does the hood, airbox, and exterior badging. GM does the suspension. I was there when my moms 99 Ram Air was getting the bits put on. I would definently get a Hawk, or Ram Air, either a TA, or a Formula WS-6 but with no power anything, radio, AC, and heater delete, plus the 1-LE package,if it dont make you go faster you dont need it.
Trans Am's also have more style and flash than a Camaro.

I don't really mean to bash the camero (which is half the board) but, the new ones are so ugly. go with the fire hawk!
hey i love camaros, and always will. but if it was my choice. i would go with FIREHAWK. the styling is sooo SWEET. i want one soo bad.. but i will have to buy it used after i get out of College.

...the hood on the Firehawk is an absolute work of art...both top and bottom...from the large hood openings to the heat extractors. Plus, IMHO it looks like the car was designed around it...the WS6 hood, while definitely more agressive looking, just looks like an afterthought to me. In addition, you have a lot more options available on the Hawk...the Bilstein Level II suspension is pretty much the best suspension I have ever had in a street driven vehicle, bar none. The Auburn rear is available for those who wish to go that route, and the hawk wheels are killer. People's choice of the WS6 over the Hawk is usually because they prefer a more "in your face" agressive looking car. The Hawk is definitely more refined and subdued looking, but she is a most potent runner indeed. SLP did a most excellent job on this one...
