Mark, That sounds alot like mine. Mine is 5cn53012?. Check to see if it's a WS6/WS7. The rear end should have a tag if it's a posi. WS7 is the same as a WS6 only a 7 has rear drum. If the rear sway bar is punie, like the size of a pinky it's not a WS6/WS7. A sway bar the size of a thumb is. WS6/WS7 will also call for 15" tires. There are no RPO code tags on '82's so don't waste time looking. The good thing about an '82 is it's the lightest T/A to date. The one you are looking at has air, mine does not and it has a curb weight of 3078 pounds. My emission system is long gone so it's well under 3000.

The factory 4-speeds won't hold much torque but mine went a long time with around 300 hp and about 250 lb. ft. and the factory rear posi ripped out first.

Good luck.

You can't tell much about opions from the VIN. It came with the LG4 and was built in Van Nuys. There are alot of red/tan cars in the world. It doesn't sound unusual to me yet.

Mark, i'd say buy it. The 305/4-speed is a blast to drive. When all my emissions fell off and with a higher duration cam, a good HEI, and stock exaust, i was crushing '88 Mustangs when they were new. IROCS and Formula 350's were also getting blown into the beaver hay.
