Yes the same. Don't forget to go to Radio Shack to get the bi-pin 20 amp halogen bulbs for $1.99 ea.

The third brake light is the same on coupes and convertibles from 1988 thru 1992 (the vast majority of convertibles). It is uniquely different in 1987 only.

I think Willie can back me up. The 87 brake light is actually a ford part. ASC needed a 3rd brake light but didn't have time to develop one before the 87 ragtops came out. Since they did the ASC Mclaeren rustang conversion, they pulled a 3rd brake light from a Marquis station wagon out of the ford parts bin and stuck it on the Camaro.

Rob,

I don't know if you were around this website in its infacy about four years ago. Remember the old yellow on black? Back then, I used to post "Trivia Question, Part x" every week. My first question was about the 1987 third brake light. You hit it right on the head. The lamp assembly is made by Ford and was used on the mid-80's Ford Country Squire station wagon -- with one difference. The assembly used on the 1987 Camaro Convertible did NOT have the Ford logo on the lens -- whew!!!

I am very fortunate to have one spare 1987 lamp and rear spoiler. It has been discontinued and has not been available since 1994.

You're talking about the "short, fat" brake light? My 86 ASC McLaren Z28 has that light. I'm glad I know that bit about the Ford part now. Do you know what type of bulb it takes? (I haven't pulled it to look yet).

Yep, it's short, fat and it sticks out! It takes a pair of #916 bulbs. This lamp is not listed in any bulb reference charts!!

Did all the tops from the factory come in black? All the factory replacements I've seen for mine come in black but I've seen some in tan an other colors.

I've only seen black. When going for a replacement stay away from the vinyl ones. Ugly IMO. I may go for tan aftermarket on my white convertible when the time comes to replace it. Lon

No. Tan was available for an extremely short time in 1987 -- only 96 produced. It was brought back in 1992.

Wow, i guess thats my trivia for the day, i didn't realize they weren't making tan topped cars until 92 after a short # of 87s...i love my tan top, wouldn't look right any other way.

Help!

I've got an '87 ASC Firebird, and I noticed the part number being Ford, put two and two together ...

BUT

I am in desperate need of the FIREBIRD cover for an '87. My ragtop was stolen three years ago, and recovered a week later minus wheels/tires/battery/radio/column ... and ...

The brake light cover.

Doesn't interchange with Camaro, and now I'm not sure about the '88-89s.

Anybody else with a Firebird convertible who can tell me if there is any difference, and where to get one?
