We need to know what louvers you have. There were many types. The 3 most popular kind were Hammond, Cragar and factory. These were all te 1 piece look.

Well just reading his post and using a little common sence it wouldn't be a one peice set, it must be a 3 peice set .
It would greatly help if we could know if they are factory or aftermarket!!

The company that made my one is called Chastain and it´s a 3 piece louver. Those are the ones that where also used on the mse trans am´s in 82.

They are complette out of metal. Which ones are the factory ones ?

Sorry, I can't help with your problem. Mainly here to say that I know the louvers. Chastain "Shadow" was 3 pieces, like you said, and was the top aftermarket louver in both style and quality back in the '80s. I had a set on my '83 Z28... back in the '80s. The louvers, instructions... and the car, have been long gone since... the '80s.

But maybe you remember how the middle section was connected to the outer pieces.
Where those only connected on the bottom ? There is a thin metal bar on each of the outer pieces but i can´t find anything where those should be attached to.
I know that the outer pieces are attached with 5 metal clippings to the window.
But where is that bar going and how was your middle section attached ? Only with the 2 bigger clippings on the top and then cliped into the outer pieces or was there something else ?

Someone told me that the purpose of that louver was that u could still lift the middle section without removing the louver.
Is that true ?

Yes, it was designed so you could lift the middle section up to clean the glass without having to remove the louver. So it was somehow "hinged" at the top. And (I think) the middle section only attached at two places at the bottom where it overlapped the side pieces. And those side pieces attached, not only with clips to the glass' frame, but also with a flat metal piece(about 1" wide) at the bottom that slid down between the glass and the rear deck.

I'm thinking that's all there was to it.

thanxs 4 your help. One last question.
What´s about those 2 bars that are on the outer pieces on top.
They are about 8 inches long but i can´t see anywhere where those should get attached. Can u remember where they belong ?

I was hoping I could tell by the pix you linked, but I can't.

Just guessing, those bars seem like they'd have to be related to the lifting(hinging, pivoting) of the center section. So could they slide through holes in the sides of the center section, providing its pivot points, securing the center section to the side sections at the top?

Your banging your head to my post regarding the 1 piece or 3 piece? I know they are the 3 piece that he has. I was merely stating that the most popular were the 1 piece by those manufacturers. I guess I can now towards you for asking him if they are factory since everybody knows the factory sets are the 1 piece look!

The only thing I didn't have were the brackets that went on the window that the hinges bolt to.....I just made some at work. Had the other clips though.
