Found a 1987 Vert......

I posted about an IROC-Z Vert before I still haven't gotten time to check that one out, But I found a 1987 Camaro Vert, Got the VIN will post it later... says 20th Anniversy on the dash... I know there were no official verts that year, but it's still cool.

Actually 1987 was the first year for "official" verts.

87 was first year for factory CAMARO convertibles, the Firebird Convertible wasn't officially available till 1991. Also of interest, the Camaro convertible was never offered with anything less than the L03, however, the Firebird convertible was available with the 3.1.

All '87 convertibles should have the 20th Anniversary map pouch on the dash board. Also different from other years is the "bubble" shaped 3rd brake light, and the short trim piece at the top rear of the doors. I think the rear spoiler is different too, but am not sure.

Drew, Camaro convertibles were available with the 3.1 V-6 starting in mid-1991, before then, the 5.0 V-8 was mandatory on base models. Chris, 87 convert 1 of 263

Speaking of '87 verts, 84Fbody and I saw a dark red sport coupe yesterday on the way back from a trip to QwkTrip's. It was driven by an older lady and was missing the drivers door trim piece. Looked a bit worn, but not too bad. It was near The Dalles, Oregon.

Does anyone have an order sheet, or 92 brochure to back that the 3.1 was available in the 92 Camaro convertible?

Drew, while I don't have the paperwork, I've been looking for a decent '91-'92 teal convertible with grey leather interior for about 2 years, and every time I find one that isn't totally thrashed it is a !@# V6 with no options. Yes they do exist.

How many of you knew that that "bubble" 3rd brake light is actually off a Mercury Marquis station wagon? When ASC was tasked to build the Camaro "verts" they didn't have a 3rd brake light so they took one from the Foord parts bin since they had been doing work on the ASC Mclaren Rustang conversions for years and had easy access to blue oval parts.
Another trivia fact is the 69 RS Camaro rear back up lights are the same as the cargo light mounted on the back of the 69/70 Chevy Pickup trucks.

Ok I read my info wrong what I meant was, If it's a 350 then it's not official... and will have a coupe digit in the VIN. Also I don't know what kind of maro it is doesn't say RS/Z28, just Camaro, so an SC convertible i guess.

EDIT
Damn I'm tired but i just reread your guy's posts, Am I to understand there were only 263 SC verts ever made? Would these cars be worth something cause this one is in very nice condition looks like someone garaged it for a loooong time.

:raises hand: I remember asking about the brakelights in an 89 and Willie told me that little trivia fact.

But an 89 has the stock 3rd brake light. Only the 87 got the bubble 3rd brake light, unless some 88's ran over.

Now, here's some more interesting trivia about the convertible third brake light. The so-called "bubble" design was actually termed the 1st design for 1987, according to Chevy. The second design for 1987 was the more familiar light seen on all other years. However, the second design was never released in 1987 and seen only starting 1988. Conversely, I have a two pictures of pre-production 1988 IROC-Z convertibles. Both have the 1987 1st design light.

So in a nutshell, the 1987 1st design is the only assembly used for 1987. And it was never used in 1988 or succeeding years.

BTW Rob, there is one difference between the Grand Marquis station wagon light and the Camaro light. The Camaro light had the Ford logo removed from the lens!!! Can you imagine?

My 1992 Camaro brochure shows the 3.1 V6 was standard on BOTH the RS Coupe and RS Convertible with the 305 TBI as optional.

to add to the proof they made '91 RS convertibles with the V-6, here is the proof: 1G1FP33T9ML195512. This car was put into service as a rent-a-car I have the RPO codes if anyone is interested. Chris '87 ragtop

On my window sticker for my 91` vert it has the 305 as an option(costs around 350 bucks i think), not standard.
