The decoder is right, all S/E's for the first few years had the 2.8L, I had an 82 myself. Don't be confused though when it sayd Trans Am Special Edition, it is worng and needs to be updated. You just have a S/E.

Not ALL S/Es had the 2.8...the LG4 was available in the S/Es as well. An interesting engine option for '83 (maybe '84 too???) was the H.O.660 engine. This was a 135hp, 2.8 liter H.O. V6 pulled straight out of the Citation X11. This engine was a Firebird S/E engine only, and not available in the Camaro.

How do you tell if a motor is a H.O 660 engine. I have a 83 SE so I'd be very intrested in finding out.

According to the Firebird Red Book, it should be an L for the engine digit. BTW, this apparently was an '83-only engine.

ok, don't know if this is off topic, but here in a neighboring town I know a guy who has a 82-84 TA. Its brown w/ lower tan striping. I'm pretty sure it is a TA. On the rear quarter right by the window where the firebird emblem is, there is a bird with "specail edition" circling aroound it. It also has the TA hood with bubble and bird. It also has a spoiler. It has the upgraded interior, but get this......only a V6???? I just saw this post and thought it was kinda weird. I'm not positive, but I wonder if it was some sort of special car??

Dude my car has the exact same paint job! That's pretty cool, I haven't seen any other firebirds with it. For that emblem my car just says S/E though. My car dosen't have a spoiler, and it has a standard hood. Is his interior all brown? Are his seats brown and are the middle of the seats brown? Dude ask him what he has!!!

yeah, I'm pretty sure his interior is a two-tone brown and tan. Its actually a pretty nice interior. It just caught my eye when I was 16 and lookin for a TA. I was gonna buy it until I saw it was a V6. It looked pretty cool and I 've never seen anything like it. It was in great condition. Is your car a TA? I don't know maybe I'm talking crap, but I swear it was a TA. It looked like the earlier 82-84 TA's but had those "special edition" emblems around the birds and other places.

Nah, mine is an S/E. If the v6 is the stock motor then it is an S/E. The T/A's and the S/E's were really clase except that the S/E's usually had v6's. My car dosen't have the T/A hood or a spoiler though...
