stock firebird with a V8????

About a week ago i purchased my 91 firebird, and i can't find anyone who can explain to me why it has a factory 305 V8. I thought that the base models only came with a V6, and that the spoiler on firebirds represented that V6 status. I've noticed some other members own cars with the same engine, and are listed as a base bird, so i'm hoping someone can give me some info on this. Thanks, hope i hear something back! Susie

I had an 84 Firebird, it had a 305 too. The V8 was available on all Firebirds.

The base model birds were always available with up to a 305... either carbed or TBI... TPI, HO carbed, and CFI cars were higher option level cars only (z28, Iroc, T/A, GTA).

The TPI 5.0 and 5.7 were also available on Formulas as well. My 89 firebird has a V8 (TBI).
