Who is correct?

This kid that I sold my 85 Z-28 to calls me up the other day to help him pull the motor to make room for a 350. His dad is talking about how the 230 horsepower it has now is fun, but the 350 will have more. I asked him what he had done to the motor since i sold it to him(its a stock L-69) He said nothing. I told hinm that motor is 190 horsepower, but he's convinced its 230 stock. Who's right, just to prove my point.

Second thing, the 350 that theyre gonna do a stock rebuild on is a 1973 350 2bbl from a Chevelle. his dad says that the 2BBL manifold and carb will flow more cfm than the 4BBL and stock aluminum intake on the L-69. Tell me this isn't true, so i can make them both look retarded.

Well, I dont know what the Chevelle intake and carb will flow, so someone else will have to give you the confirmation on that one.

I do know, however, that the L69 was rated by GM as 190 HP. I think they put out a little more; there were rumors at the time that GM under rated them. But, I dont think they put out anything near 230 HP.

They're retarded. But I doubt that anyone telling you that will make them change their minds. They'll just have to screw up a fairly fast car and find out for themselves.

The 2-barrel stuff should be good for about 180 HP on a 350. The L69 came with 190 according to the factory, and is easy to get more than that out of. Don't worry yourself, it's their car now, and they might just have to learn about those 2 motors the hard way.

This is at least the second time that it has been mentioned that the L69 was underated in the HP dept. Has anyone dynoed a low mileage L69 Z28/IROC to see what the actual numbers are?

Morons are everywhere! A stock 230hp L69? Can I have one of them? As rb stated it is 190hp from the factory, but useing premium they rated it at 200hp! woohoo. So does this mean that 150 octane fuel give you 230hp? Tell them both they are morons!

So according to that guy, my factory LB9 should have 245hp instead of 205! Maybe at the flywheel with open intake, 100 octane, and headers!

I hereby award them the official title of "TOTAL MORONS"!

the only L69 I was ever aware of being underrated was the 83's (for obvious reasons)

but then again I could be wrong... I've seen a guy with a stock l69 dyno at something like 180rwhp though... so its gotta be somewhere over 190

Why take pleasure in making them look like idiots? Just hold comfort in your own knowledge and let them learn from their own mistakes.

I know, I know I just want to get even a little after they made fun of me for bulding a torque motor that doesn't do much after 5500 rpm. They just are know it alls and can get a little obnoxious about it. They are still talking about this even after like two months. I just want to end the madness.

As Ed Mcmahon used to say to Johnny Carson, "You are correct sir!"
according to the tech data page, the L69 was rated at 190hp@4800 240ftlbs@3200. I think they might've looked it up, saw the higher number in the torque column and said, "hell, it's got 240hp" without looking at the column header.

If the one at the top is charcoal then something is messed up with aol. On my 3 computers, friends, and even the laptop I borrowed for now shows it as brown. I am not saying that it's not charcoal but what gives with aol?
