305 HO? TBI?
305 HO? TBI?
I have a 305 HO in a '90 Formula with TBI. What motor is this? What is the difference in an HO?
Also, I am thinking about swaping to TPI. What would I have to do? Isn't the fuel pressure a lot different? What about wiring harness?

Okay, I have to ask. Did the dealer or person you bought the car from tell you it was a 305 HO with TBI? The only way that would make any sense is if someone took an older L69 HO block and put TBI on it meaning that would not be the original engine.
Either the decal has added, or the guy was in an accident that messed the hood up and he got a replacement from an older model that had it, as the power bulge has been around a LONG time for birds. Like My GTA that has a 350 but the hood says 5.0
hope that helps.

hope that helps.

ummm the 305 High Output as they call it are stricktly for mostly the f-body and i think montecarlo back in the day... because when i went to get a new engine for my car my shop ordered the wrong engine they ordered just the reguler 305 you'd find in the old chevy malibu wagons that are rated at like 120 horse...but the high output i think are rated at somethin like 160-170 horse for tbi 150-160 for carbed and 190-210 TPI

Misinformation flies about.
The L69 was the HO 305. It was rated at 190hp with 240ft/lbs of torque and was available through 1986, although there weren't many produced in its later years. It was only available with the 5 speed, at least in 85 and 86. I've never seen an L69 with an auto, but I'm sure they exist previous to 85. This motor, when coupled to the 5-speed and a 3.73 rear end, was capable of mid 15 second 1/4s.
The main differences between the LG4 and the L69 was as follows:
L69 had a much better cam. It actually had the same cam that the better TPI motors came with: 202/206, 403/415, 114.5 LSA. This is much better than the LG4 cam, which was practically round.
The L69 also had a differently tuned carburator, larger exhaust manifolds, and a less restrictive exhaust.

It's just a sticker from the factory. Doesn't mean a thing (unfortunately) I've seen several Formulas with TBI and a H.O decal.
GM should've had some brains and never put this engine in IROCs, Formulas aor Trans Ams.
It is an unworthy disgrace

L69 air cleaner installed! Yeh my Gf's Grand Am GT is still faster

About 3 weeks before I bought my 91 I looked at a black 84 Z with L69 and an auto. It wasn't in bad shape but I just don't think it would have kept up with my 91.
