VSS RPO Code
VSS RPO Code
Does anyone know the correct VSS RPO code for a 305 TBI / 5-speed Camaro RS 90-92 ? Ive been trying to find out with no luck, even the dealership couldnt tell me and they list a few of them. My car was originally an auto. The rpo decoder on heredont tell which is which either.
I really appreciate the replys!! This is a F**king nightmare to find this sensor!!! 3 different dealerships and 4 auto parts stores and no one has a description of what which sensor/p# goes to what!!! This is the deal , I have a 91RS 305TBI (Originally an automatic)now a 5-Speed. My orig.auto speed sensor code was D8E P#10456088. I need the part# or code for the v8 RS with a 5-speed.I was told there is one for TPI and another for TBI. Now im being told it has to do with ratio. I was told the speedo gears were the only difference as far as different ratios were concerned!!!Could someone please clear this up? Are there two different types of sensors, one for TPI and one for TBI , or do they both use the same sensor.Doing the 5-speed conversion was a snap, finding the correct speed sensor , now thats the hard part!!!I also installed 3.42 gears if that makes a difference.

Good luck, when I switched gears to teh 3.42's I had to change the speedo gears, not the speed sensor. One quick note, I had to change both gears a real PITA. I had 3.08's if this helps

Here's the deal, no parts store or dealership will be able to help you with this. I have no knowledge of how the 5 spd relates but here's what I know in relation to the auto. There are multiple RPO codes, but there are really only 3 VSS part numbers. The only difference as far as I can tell are the gear ratios of the rearend. The VSS keys off the tailshaft of the tranny, so the only thing it would have to compensate for are different gear ratios.
So you would use whatever sensor your car had originally. If the VSS in the 5 spd is physically different then the auto, you're on your own, if not use the sensor from your original tranny.
