Without knowing what you already have its hard to make suggestions. Most all the books I've seen on the thirdgen cars are about the same, some are better than others but none really stand out as being better than all the rest. I've just gotten into the habit of buying any thirdgen books I find. The only ones I'd avoid are books that cover Chevrolet or Pontiac rather than the carlines.

The book "How to Tune and Modify Your Camaro" is an excellent book. If you are planning on doing any modifications to your car I highly recommend it. I've had a lot of experience with modifying thirdgens and couldn't imagine a book writin much better than that one. I own a lot of Camaro/Firebird modification books and that one is BY FAR the best.
I got all three of those
and each one is great in its own way. The second one "Camaro" is general Camaro history and is a big book with lots of great pics. Not all the pics are bone stock cars either, which is different for those books. The first and seconds deal with modifying Camaros. The first one goes all the way into LT1 and LS1 so that is kind of a waste, but it is mostly thirdgen. It is also a little more hardcore (a lot more racing info) than the last one "Camaro Performance Handbook." The Camaro Performance Handbook" is a good general bolt on book, but is still really good. You won't be dissapointed with any of them. This one http://shop.barnesandnoble.com/books...sbn=1561735388 is really good history type book also.

Camaro Performance Handbook I have, and it is a fantastic book! It's no good for resto tips, but if you wanna make your car fly, this book is a great resource. There is a whole chapter just on carbureted cars, which I am sure would help you out...

Quite honestly, I have the Camaro Performance Handbook (got it as a gift) and I didn't find it to be helpful. I mean, I would probably swear by it if I never came upon this website, but the point I'm trying to make is that anything you can find in those books, you can probably get on this site. The books are good to have, but thirdgen.org can give you a more personable touch to modding your car....and I'm rambling now, so I'll stop my post
any one else's thoughts?

Try to find a used copy of "Camaro the Third Generation" by Michael Lamm. Find the 3rd edition. Willie told me about this book, and $50 later I finally found a copy. It was worth every penny. I've since managed to pick up the first edition for $10. The 1st edition is 100% pre-production and design information. The 3rd edition has most of that along with production information through the 1986 model year.
Now I just need to find a 2nd edition, and convince Lamm to produce a 4th edition.

Jim made me think... if you are getting a book as a gift, don't ask for a $10-20 book. Get the big boy, the factory service manual for you car. Much better than any haynes or chiltons (where do you think they get all those diagrams) but the book costs around $100. Merry X-mas
