Analog clock in console
Analog clock in console
OK, this is something that has always bugged me. My Z28 had an antenna put in it by the previous owner. He stated that there was no antenna on the car before, and that there was a blank plate covering the stereo location. Well I could never find a stereo delete option in my RPOs, so what the heck. I also have an analog clock in the center console. I thought there might be some truth to the matter because of the clock, is this a viable explanation?

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. While replacing the rear speakers, I noticed that there were no speaker openings in the sail panels behind the cloth thingees. Somebody(the first owner) had roughly sketched out in marker the shape of a speaker and butchered the panels(nothing is visible due to the cloth covering) to install the speakers. Why doesn't my car have a radio delete RPO??

I'm unsure about the radio delete. Normally, the console clock was put in cars with an AM radio (without clock), which was the case with my 85 IROC. The clock would, of course, also make sense in a car without a radio. By the way, I notice your running headers. Any chance of your wishing to sell the stock L69 exhaust manifolds?

My IROC came with the AM radio too. Always made me wonder who optioned my car. Every option under the sun except a good radio and posi.
Anyway, with the AM radio option, you got the console clock, and I believe that you also got 4x6" dash speakers but no 6x9s in the back. I do believe that the car still came with an antenna though. My IROC had a stock GM antenna in it. Although that could have been added after the fact, I've never seen any sort of fender block-off, and I can't imagine them pulling fenders off the line before the antenna hole is stamped into the exterior panel.
I don't know if the radios used the antenna for AM reception or not. Most AM radios utilize an internal antenna, but to be honest I have no idea if that is the case in car radios or not.

My window sticker showed "radio delete" but I don't see any RPO for it (though I have a few RPOs I can't find-see my post in this section.) I also have the analog clock in the console (RPO U35)
My RPO sheet shows both U73 and V73, which are both "antenna, fixed" but only 1 antenna on my fender.

I have no RPO for a radio or antenna. Radio deleted is UL5, which is not present on my RPOs. So in summation what would you expect if the vehicle had no RPO for either a radio or antenna, had a console clock, had no speakers in the rear from the factory(not sure on fronts), and supposedly did not have an antenna? All the while still not having RPO UL5 - Radio delete?

Though I had the AM radio and console clock, I had a power antenna, as well as front AND rear speakers (the RPO said fixed antenna by the way).

The console clock was available as an option, it doesn't really matter what radio was involved. In the few radio delete cars I've seen, they have a blockoff plate in the dash, and the rear speaker covers (cloth) aren't there, and the plastic that would be behind the covers are uncut.

RPO UE8 was Clock, digital (in radio). If the radio already had a clock, there would be little reason for the console clock (RPO U35). On the other hand, the AM radio, which wasn't equipped with digital clock, and cars with radio delete would still need one. However, that said, GM did some crazy things. Robert, sent you a pic of the clock

Just for a little more info on the clock. I don't know about all years, but in 85 the clock was available as a separate option, and came standard with the AM radio & radio delete. AFAIK very, very few were ordered individually.

My 83 Camaro Sport Coupe has wiring for an am-fm radio(don't know if am wiring is different than am-fm), a fixed antenna, front and rear speakers and a console clock. Just some information.

Small update, just getting back into this forum after an absence, but my Z not has NO antenna, no hole, nada, zip, zilch. Looks much better IMHO. The factory replacement quarters come un cut for antenna and I certainly wasn't about to put a hole in there. I dig, anybody looking for a clean lines look should grab a quarter(they are cheap) while they are still available.
