No you could not. Iroc-Z or RS, there was no sports coupe model either. The Iroc died in 1990, and the Z28 was available in 1990. Moderator

From 1982-1984 there was the Z28
In 1985 they introduced the IROC, it was an option package for the Z28
in 1988 the Z28 by itself was gone, you could only get an IROC,
For the 1991 model year the Z28 returned alone without an IROC*
NOTE: GM lost the IROC license on Dec 31, 1989, there were NO 1990 Camaros produced in 1990. Producton on the 1991's started early, around Feb or March, same as Firebird.
General Manager of Chevrolet Jim Perkins, took the position that spending money on IROC was not money beating another make of car. - Ford, Toyota, Nissan etc. Perkins wanted to Compete and to compete you have to race against other makes, not race against themselves. Thus they let Dodge take the series, interestingly enough, you mention IROC, and not many people would ask "Dodge Daytona or Camaro"
A little history tho, Porsche originally was the car of choice in the IROC series, then Chevrolet took it for 12 years... Dodge picked it up in 1990, and they usec the daytona, then I believe the Avenger replaced the Daytona. The current car is a Firebird that looks like a Trans Am. They did not use the name "Trans Am" because that is another series altogether. Even though the Firebird has been gone for 4 years, they still use the body.... Go fig

now why did I go there?

But that brings up something strange... I ran into someone at a junkyard recently who said he owned two Camaros. One was a 1988 Z28, which I know there wasn't; and the other was a 1991 IROC-Z, which I didn't think there was either. I was pretty sure he was just remembering them backwards, which would make sense. But he insisted that he was the original owner of the 1991 IROC-Z. If that's true, which I still don't think it was, then that would mean that the contract must've, indeed, ended in Dec., 1990, and that the car was built in 1990, but during model year 1991?

All 1990 Camaros were built prior to December 1989. There is no such thing as a 1991 IROC-Z. The contract ended December 1989. The 1991 Camaros were released in April 1990.

That's how I'd always understood it. So apparently the guy was just remembering them backwards, his IROC-Z being the '88 and his Z28 being the '91.
